This is a hybrid Super Audio CD playable on both regular and Super Audio CD players. In the seventh century CE Genjo Sanzo walked the length of the Silk Road from Japan to India and back, bringing with him the scriptures that introduced ... Full DescriptionBuddhism to Japan and China. On this live two-disc album, recorded at the monastery where Genjo's ashes are harbored, Kitaro attempts to capture the passions that sustained the monk on his long journeys.
The album opens with the somber, unadorned chanting of the Yakushiji monks. As with most of his studio albums, DAYLIGHT, MOONLIGHT finds Kitaro effortlessly bridging the traditional and the forward-thinking, particularly on songs such as "Hazimari/Sozo" and "Estrella." The standout track, "Mercury," originally featured on his Grammy Award-winning album THINKING OF YOU, finds his flute gliding over a sparse industrial landscape. In all, a strong set that lives up to the story of the monk who inspired it.

From 1975's SIREN through the rest of Roxy Music's albums and his concurrent solo work, Bryan Ferry was leading up to AVALON. The last Roxy Music studio album (it was followed by numerous collections, both live and otherwise), it is the perfect culmination of Ferry's constant striving for the ultimate sophistication. On AVALON, the styles that the band had explored in the past--funk, jazz, and rock--come together to create a texture of remarkable subtlety. The title track is Ferry's finest moment. His suave voice turns the romance all the way up, while the band plays in a smooth, light jazz-funk groove and guitar notes shimmer like the sun on water.
"While My Heart is Still Beating" features Andy Mackay's saxophone drifting in around Phil Manzanera's languid guitar lines. "True to Life," a ballad shot through with reverberation, is the kind of song aching to be played late at night with the lights off. From the almost jaw-dropping elegance of the opening track, "More Than This," to the closing "Tara," a sparse, evocative instrumental, AVALON is Roxy Music's masterpiece.
Digitally remastered by Robert C. Ludwig (Masterdisc).

| | Kinks Muswell Hillbillies CD (1971) SACD Hybrid
Daylight Moonlight: Live In Yakushiji CD music
$13.89 This is a hybrid Super Audio CD playable on both regular and Super Audio CD players.
MUSWELL HILLBILLIES holds a special place in the hearts of many Kinks fans, as well as the band themselves. Released in November 1971, the album has an anachronistic, rootsy quality that flew in the face of the blues-rock acts then diddling themselves all over FM radio. The unaffected, country-influenced, back-to-basics feel was similar to what the Rolling Stones attempted seven months later with EXILE ON MAIN STREET.
However, while the theme of MUSWELL HILLBILLIES was about getting back to the roots, it was Ray and Dave Davies' own roots, in London's Muswell Hill neighborhood, that inspired Ray to pen the album. As on many of the Kinks' albums from the '60s, MUSWELL HILLBILLIES both celebrates and affectionately satirizes English life. "20th Century Man," "Holiday," and "Here Come the People in Gray" address the issues of working-class characters and the tribulations of Muswell as it underwent modernization. The album also demonstrated Ray Davies's penchant for albums based ...
| | Tom Waits Real Gone CD (2004)
Daylight Moonlight: Live In Yakushiji music CDs
$13.79 The absence of piano is significant--Waits's jazzy harmonic underpinning is entirely dismantled here, leaving only the most basic, blues-oriented structures atop which Waits hangs his distinctive poetic imagery, at once surreal and highly detailed. There's an overwhelming sense of darkness ("How's It Gonna End," "Dead and Lovely"), but there are also moments of pure unfettered glee "Metropolitan Glide," "Shake It"), which are often goosed along by Waits's son Casey on turntables and percussion. A perennial romantic, Waits does let in a little melodic sunshine on the poignant closing ballad, "Day After Tomorrow," but for the most part, REAL GONE is a deliriously wild ride.
There have been many incarnations of Tom Waits--the boozy piano balladeer, the arch Kurt Weill acolyte, the bold sonic experimentalist--but the one that pops up on REAL GONE is probably most akin to the raw, howling, modern primitive of BONE MACHINE. As he did on that 1992 album, Waits gets in touch with his inner Captain Beefheart on ...
