In This Diary album
$9.59 Principally recorded at the Record Plant, New York, New York in April and May 1968.
On ELECTRIC LADYLAND Jimi Hendrix stretched and experimented in the studio, going beyond the power-trio format on what would be his last studio album with the Experience. ELECTRIC LADYLAND was revolutionary in its scope and execution. Using New York City's Record Plant as a gateway to free expression, Hendrix traversed an abstract landscape containing compositions as weird and wonderful as "...And The Gods Made Love" and "1983...(A Merman I Should Turn To Be)."
Simultaneously looking forwards and backwards, Hendrix mixed in a song reminiscent of his time on the chitlin' circuit (Earl King's "Come On [Part 1]"), a Bob Dylan favorite ("All Along The Watchtower"), and one of his snappiest singles ("Crosstown Traffic"). Although Hendrix produced and wrote most of this masterpiece, others weighed in with their own contributions. Noel Redding penned "Little Miss Strange," and other guests such as Al ...
| | Blake Shelton Hillbilly Bone CD (2010)
In This Diary CD music
$5.54 Hillbilly Bone feels like a stopgap between albums for Blake Shelton, but it's not. This "Six Pak" is a budget-priced, six-track EP featuring a smash single as the title track. Pal Trace Adkins helps out on both the cut and in the video. The format is Warner Bros' attempt to deal with growing customer dissatisfaction with the traditional full-length format; they will release a second part later in 2010. As for the music, it's a formula contemporary country chartmaker: highly compressed dual lead guitars, layered acoustic guitars, good-time honky tonk lyrics, and big rocking drums. It's a good-natured dig at city folks, and you can't help but like Shelton, no matter how many cliché's he spews. A radio skit outro is the actual intro to "Kiss My Country Ass," a pure "redneck-and-proud" anthem worthy of Hank Williams, Jr. at his most ornery. Were it not for the title, it would no doubt score as a single as well. Things get a bit slower and softer with four different kinds of "love" songs that follow. The first, "You'll Always Be Beautiful," is about the real thing; it's among the more sensitive ballads on Shelton's records. "Can't Afford to Love You" is a humorous take on trying to find the right person in the wrong place. "Delilah" is a classic contemporary country betrayal number. The set's final cut, "Almost Alright," is a midtempo recovering-from-love narrative with a catchy chorus, an unusual use of steel drums, and a more complex rhythm pattern -- ...

| | Hard To Find 45S, Vol. 11: Sugar Pop Classics CD (2010)
In This Diary songs
$13.49 The 19 singles collected on this set of 1960s sugar pop classics weren't exactly bubblegum -- each of these sides has at least a thin veneer of adult emotion attached to it -- but they weren't too far up the confection ladder, either. They weren't heavy or experimental recordings, and they weren't out to change minds or the world. But they sure were bright and insistent -- ear worms, if you will, the kinds of things you heard on the radio while you were waiting for the song you really wanted to hear, and once they got stuck in your ear, they were in there for a good long time, whether you liked it or not. This set is full of pesky, big-production ear worms like "Nice to Be with You" by Gallery (really Detroit native Jim Gold), "My Baby Needs Lovin'" by White Plains (one of lead singer Tony Burrows' many bands -- he was also the singer for Edison Lighthouse, Brotherhood of Man, the Flower Pot Men, the Pipkins, and the First Class, among others), "Montego Bay" by Bobby Bloom (who wrote the song with Jeff Barry), "Girl Watcher" by the O'Kaysions (a North Carolina country and gospel group that went secular and R&B with this single), the effortlessly pretty "Mr. Dieingly Sad" by the Critters, and "Baby Take Me in Your Arms" by Jefferson (who was actually Geoff Turton of the Rockin' Berries). One has to be in the mood for this stuff, but there are times when a little sugar is exactly what the ...

In This Diary album
$19.04 To delve into history is to reach into mystery. Music is a time-honored method for investigating both. The Chieftains' Paddy Moloney has been obsessed with the historical account of the San Patricios, a band of immigrant Irish soldiers who deserted the American Army during the Mexican-American War in 1846 to fight for the other side, against the Manifest Destiny ideology of James Polk's America. Moloney's Chieftains and co-producer Ry Cooder decided to try to tell it musically. The result brings this fascinatingly complex tale to life in the modern world and examines ...

| | Gravity Savior CD (2009)
In This Diary songs
$8.55 Gravity music is an intense journey into the emotions that humanity experiences. Within it lurks love, hate, alienation, sexuality, frustration, loneliness, and desire, just to name a few, that are expressed both musically and lyrically. Gravity believes that music and melody needs to convey the message as much as the singing and lyrics do, and they often combine to pack a one two punch. Gravity is a "Listening Experience" more than it is anything else.Gravity is a male/female duo with no confining genre. While the music is dark and can be loosely put into the Goth Rock category, it often strays from that while maintaining it's darker tones. Gravity origins began as the brainchild of Norman (Figueroa) Dehm. First known as A Candlelight Ghost, the act went on the road in the early nineties playing to Goth/Alternative audiences. Later, going solo with the project, and renaming it Gravity, lead to many years of isolated experimentation and refinement of a sound unlike any other. Recently brought aboard was the vocal and musical talent of Sarah Choszczyk, taking the music in a new direction while maintaining its roots, and adding power to the vocals. And what are those roots you ask? It's broad and eclectic. Early influences come from Pink Floyd, Scorpions, The Cure, Fields of the Nephilim, the New Wave/80's era, and Beethoven. Later influences include the likes of Tool, Portishead, Static X, trance/techno, Nine Inch Nails, Dead Can Dance, and cinematic styles of music such as Danny Elfman. Does Gravity sound like any of those artists? Not really! People often ask what Gravity sounds like and a good answer doesn't exist. It's very hard to compare but it is most of the time dark, rhythmic, powerful, and emotionally packed. Gravity's main musical philosophy is originality. If it sounds too much at all like another band, the song will get scrapped. Gravity experiments with the arrangements and ...
