The Doors issued just six studio albums during their phenomenal (yet extremely turbulent) four-year run, yet the band's popularity has increased dramatically since singer Jim Morrison's mysterious death in 1971. And although the Doors have been the subject of one box set already, the 1999 seven-disc set COMPLETE STUDIO RECORDINGS is definitive. All six of the band's albums are included, in crystal-clear digitally remastered sound. All come in cardboard replicas of the original records that go so far as to duplicate the records' dust cover sleeves.
And as a bonus, an extra disc entitled ESSENTIAL RARITIES is included, which features the best uncommon material from the Doors' 1997 four-disc box set, THE DOORS BOX SET, as well as a booklet filled with pictures, essays, and lyrics. Few would debate that some of the finest rock ever recorded is here--"Light My Fire," "Break on Through," "Peace Frog," "Waiting for the Sun," "Touch Me," "Roadhouse Blues," "Riders on the Storm," the list is endless. If you're a longtime Doors fan looking to replace your records or a newcomer wanting to acquire all of the band's official albums in one shot, COMPLETE STUDIO RECORDINGS is a must-have.
Break on through with remastered sound & repackaging of this 7-CD box uniting all six of the bands original album masterpieces, plus a full disc of 15 rarities including 1 bonus track, 'Woman Is A Devil' (Recorded At Elektra Studios 1969). Compiled in 1999 when the box was originally released, The Essential Rarities disc boasts an incredible collection of alternate takes, demos, live cuts, stage banter and more. Includes 72-page book with dozens of photos, complete lyrics to all songs, and extensive liner notes. All original Lp artwork faithfully restored. Longbox. Elektra 2003.
THE COMPLETE STUDIO RECORDINGS contains: THE DOORS (1967)/STRANGE DAYS (1967)/WAITING FOR THE SUN (1968)/THE SOFT PARADE (1969)/MORRISON HOTEL (1970)/L.A. WOMAN (1971) and ESSENTIAL RARITIES (1997) which includes previously unreleased, live and demo tracks. Includes a 60-page booklet with liner notes by Dave DiMartino.
Producers: Paul A. Rothchild, Bruce Botnick, The Doors.
The Doors: Jim Morrison (vocals); Bobby Krieger (guitar); Ray Manzarek (piano organ, keyboards, marimba); John Densmore (drums, percussion).
Q (2/00, pp.96-7) - 4 stars out of 5 - "...6 of the quartet's studio albums...dressed up in miniaturised versions of the original cardboard sleeves, plus...ESSENTIAL RARITIES: a 14-track distillation of the last boxed set with an unreleased and nondescript slow blues 'Devil Is A Woman'..."

Average Rating: (4.5 out of 5 stars)
The Brilliance of The Doors studio albums boxed This collection handily yokes together The Doors studio albums. In the period 1967-71, the band cut some timelessly brilliant music, that hasn't dated, because in a way, it wasn't of it's time. All of the studio albums have more than just flickers of brilliance - even 'The Soft Parade', my least favourite, still sounds wonderful, especially because of the top-notch remastering job. Well worth your entertainment dollars, euros, whatever. Submitted by alan (London, England) Was This Review Helpful? YesNo
Incomplete Boxed Sex The 6 albums that are here are good and well done. The little LP sleeves are cool. However... the doors had 9 albums.. not 6. This is not "Complete" For some reason they only chose to include 2/3's of their catalogue.
The poetry album which was done by the doors in 1978 by recording instrumentals and laying edited pieces of Jims poetry over it was a nice bit of work that should have been included... but I can understand why it wasnt as it wasnt a studio album per sa... not a traditional album.. it was done after the band was no longer consistantly active or touring anymore.
The two fine albums they did without Jim have been neglected as well.. thus furthuring the idea that the doors could never exist without Morrison... and erasing a piece of history that the fans should be made aware of. "Other Voices" & "Full Circle" are Doors albums and that should be acknowledged... and included in a "Complete" studio album collection of "The Doors"
The doors management continue to ignore these 2 albums existance by STILL not releasing them on CD after the format has existed for some 20 years. It would have cost em a whole extra 50 cents a unit probably to include two more discs on this and people would have still bought it for the others.. and may have at least had the chance to like or dislike these neglected records.
