The 25 tracks on Very Best of Wynonie Harris: Good Rockin' Tonight were originally recorded for the King label in the late '40s and early '50s and contain the majority of his well-loved favorites, including "Rock Mr. Blues," "Bloodshot Eyes," "Sittin' On It All the Time," "Good Morning Judge," and of course "Good Rockin' Tonight." This compilation gives the Rhino set Bloodshot Eyes: The Best of Wynonie Harris a run for its money by adding seven extra cuts. Either set is recommended alongside the Classics label's 1945-1947 series, which spotlights the legendary blues shouter's early jump sides for Hamp-Tone, Bullet, and Aladdin. ~ Al Campbell

In 1947, Wynonie Harris joined the star-studded roster of Cincinnati's King Records. Wynonie Harris' biggest hit, 'Good Rockin' Tonight' became a pivotal track in the emergence of Rock 'N' Roll when Elvis Presley recorded the song for Sun Records. R&B at its finest is represented on 'Good Rockin' Tonight', featuring 25 tracks including 'I Like My Baby's Pudding', 'Good Morning Judge', 'All She Wants To Do Is Rock' & many more. 3 stars Good if you like "jivey" music and risque lyrics
I bought this CD solely for the song "Bloodshot Eyes." A customer at the grocery store where I work complained that I "rolled" my eyes at him and promptly complained to the manager. I had often heard this song when I was a kid and began to softly sing the lyrics as I worked. My co-workers doubted that such a song existed but I proved them wrong. Other than "Bloodshot Eyes," the rest of the songs don't appeal to me.
