This collection of solo guitar tunes features four of the leading proponents of the clawhammer style: Michael Stadler, Jody Stecher, Steve Baughman, and Alec Stone Sweet. Clawhammer is a style of finger-picking that has its roots in the banjo, and it is particularly effective on bluegrass and Celtic music.

CLAWHAMMER GUITAR is comprised of several medleys. Each selection invites listeners into a world where virtuosity is second only to the natural splendor of each tune. Stadler's upbeat "Waterbound/Harley In The Hallway" combines a rich Celtic melody with bluesy turns. Stecher's "The Sandy Boys/Liza Jane/Who's Been Here Since I Been Gone" is similar in nature, but here, the guitarist's droning E string cleverly mimics Scottish bagpipes. Baughman's peppy "Cluck Old Hen/Possum's Glory" is more overtly Irish in its use of Celtic ornamentation (trills and other scale-based filigree). In contrast, Sweet's "Shady Grove/Salt River" uses wispy, harp-like intervallic leaps to lend an air of quiet contemplation. This collection of roots music is compelling because each guitarist brings such authenticity to the table.

This is the first ever recording to feature clawhammer style guitar playing exclusively. Well known artists Steve Baugham, Jody Stecher, Micheal Stadler and Alec Stone Sweet are the contributing musicians.
