The Pet Shop Boys interest in dance music dates all the way back to vocalist Neil Tennant's stint as a journalist working for Smash Hits in the mid-'80s, The Pet Shop Boys have periodically released remix discs pertaining to a previous studio album. DISCO 3 is the latest installment of this sporadically executed concept with last year's RELEASE getting the remix honors this time around. Among the highlights on this 10-track EP are the Giorgio Moroder-influenced "Try It (I'm in Love with A Married Man)," sturdy ambient/house hybrid "Here" (PSB New Extended Mix), and high NRG anthem "Positive Role Model." There's also the ominous-sounding electroclash workout "Time on My Hands" featuring vocals from both Tennant and creative partner Chris Lowe. The only anomaly on this collection is the closing number "London" (Genuine Piano Mix), a gorgeous piano-and-voice number.

Christina Aguilera rocketed to the top of the charts with the smash hit "Genie in a Bottle" from this self-titled debut and placed herself among a leading generation of young, multi-talented pop artists. Like fellow performers Britney Spears, J.C. and Justin of 'N Sync, and actress Keri Russell, who stars in the TV show Felicity, Aguilera is a graduate of the New Mickey Mouse Club television program.
Songs such as "What a Girl Wants" with its guitar-driven melody, and the soulful gospel strain of "So Emotional" show Christina Aguilera's polish. Some of the other tracks that stand out are the powerful "I Turn to You," which was written by Diane Warren; "Reflection," which was produced by Matthew Wilder; and the dance floor mover "Love Will Find a Way," from hit makers Carl Sturken and Evan Rogers.
Always one for a remix, Madonna follows the AMERICAN LIFE album with an EP that includes alternate mixes of four album tracks. "Nothing Fails (Nevins Mix)" glides along on an acoustic guitar line and skittering, distorted beats, while 1980s revisionists Mount Sims take on "Nobody Knows Me" with a dirty keyboard/vocoder barrage. Finally the Headcleanr rock mixes of "Love Profusion" and "American Life" are energetic, guitar-heavy versions of the originals.
Also included on REMIXED & REVISITED is a live recording of the Material Girl's show-stopping 2003 MTV Video Music Awards performance of her "Like a Virgin" and "Hollywood" medley, featuring the additional diva trinity of Christina Aguilera, Britney Spears, and Missy Elliott. This came at the end of 1983, a particularly prolific period for Stewart and Lennox - they had already spent most of the year in the chart with "Sweet Dreams," released at the beginning of the year. This album shows less reliance on programmed instrumentation and a less "Germanic" feel to the production. "The First Cut" and "Right By Your Side" indicate a loosening up and a more rootsy approach as Lennox discovers she has a great R&B/soul voice. "Here Comes The Rain Again" and "Who's That Girl?" exemplify the more familiar haunting Eurythmics sound.
