Matching the success of 50 Cent's GET RICH OR DIE TRYIN' might seem a formidable task, but with CHEERS, Obie Trice more than rises to the challenge. The latest release from Eminem's Shady Records, CHEERS is bursting with musical and lyrical innovation. The Detroit MC declares his manifesto in the very first song, "Average Man," which speaks for itself; for Trice, his everyday quest to leave the streets behind and become a successful MC is drama enough. Eminem produces a majority of the album's tracks, which provide hauntingly melodic backgrounds for Trice's grounded lyrical content. Then there's Dr. Dre, who contributes four songs (two of which include Nate Dogg, "The Set Up" and "Look In My Eyes), and steps to the mic on "S*** Hits the Fan." Timbaland, Busta Rhymes, and D-12 also make appearances, giving the album even more star power--but CHEERS remains Obie Trice's show.

Classic From start to finish, this album was built to last. Great beat and lyrical production, especially in We All Die One Day; even though Eminem ripped the whole song. Submitted by Kevin (Trenton, NJ, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

GREAT LYRICS I think hes a great lyricst. But what I didnt where some of the beats. Mainly because their produced by Eminem. Theirs nothing wrong with eminem as an artist but as a producer he not as good as Others like (Dre, kanye, or the neptunes). Every beat sounds the same. Which makes listeners kinda bored. So his next album he should try working with some other beat makers. If your a true hip hop fan you'll really like this album. Submitted by Obie trice fan from TX (Roma, TX) Was This Review Helpful? Cheers
$12.05 DMX loves dogs, and feels a connection to them; he's certainly never made a secret of it, infusing his raps with numerous references to man's best friend. On the intro to his fifth record, GRAND CHAMP, the East Coast rapper/actor asserts his canine preference as, not surprisingly, the pit bull ("they make good companions, but even worse enemies/it's all in how you take 'em"). It's a fitting portrait of the gruffer-than-gruff-voiced, remarkably uncompromising hardcore rapper, who leaves the listener to either embrace his stark world or get the hell out.
GRAND CHAMP reveals DMX to be as fierce as ever ("only know how to be one way, that's the thug"), spewing his usual blend ...

Cheers
$15.89 Includes an untitled hidden track at the end of THE LOVE BELOW CD.
Additional personnel includes: Sleepy Brown, Jazze Pha, Jay-Z, Killer Mike, Big Gipp, Ludacris, Rosario Dawson, Norah Jones, Kelis, Cee-Lo, Lil Jon, Mello, Slim Calhoun, Kuhjo Goodie.
SPEAKERBOXXX/THE LOVE BELOW won the 2004 Grammy Awards for Album Of The Year and for Best Rap Album. "Hey Ya!" won for Best Urban/Alternative Performance. The song was also nominated for Record Of The Year.
Simply put, there is no band that does anything close to what Outkast does. Big Boi & Andre 3000 have consistently managed to maintain mainstream success while obliterating the limits of what is considered to be hip-hop. Frolicking at the outskirts of language, they throw every genre into a blender and make every musical turn sound organic. SPEAKERBOXXX/THE LOVE BELOW is actually two solo records fused together, the former by Big Boi, the latter by Andre 3000, with each mind working at an equally frantic pace to create a gloriously split sonic experience.
Big Boi opens with a techno intro that fades into industrial-style grinding on "Ghettomusick," before settling into more traditional, although far from ordinary, ...
| | Ludacris Chicken & Beer CD (2003)
Cheers
$10.45 In the year leading up to the release of his third disc, CHICKEN & BEER, Ludacris' distinguished drawl could be heard all over the radio on commanding guest appearance after guest appearance, most notably on Missy Elliott's smash "Gossip Folks." Not that he needed any more airplay--his first two major releases already had the Georgian rapper well established as one of the most accomplished Dirty South crossover acts.
CHICKEN & BEER is an apt title for the ravenously hungry record with few moments of sobriety, as Ludacris unleashes his most gentle of furies. In "Southern Fried Intro," he unabashedly admits to throwing all styles, even pop, into his musical stew, before firing the full-out assault of "Blow ...
| | Tupac Resurrection CD (2003) SDTK
Cheers
$10.99 Not surprisingly, RESURRECTION's soundtrack is easily the most satisfying of the various 2Pac compilations, a prismatic examination of the music produced by a constantly conflicted man. TUPAC: RESURRECTION collects 2Pac songs from all of his albums, opting to search for the most representative tracks, instead of just grabbing the hits. These tunes range in character, from the powerful, affecting "Starin' Through My Rear View" to the goofy Digital Underground track "Same Song." TUPAC: RESURRECTION also features posthumous duets with 50 Cent, Eminem and, most compellingly, "Runnin' (Dying to Live)," which combines the recorded ...
| | G-Unit Beg For Mercy CD (2003)
Cheers
$11.15 Queens rapper 50 Cent ascended to the pinnacle of the hip-hop world in 2003, and the latter part of the year saw his crew, G-Unit, drop by with their own ubiquitous single "Stunt 101" and debut record, BEG FOR MERCY. Far from an entourage cashing in on one member's immediate success, the success of both 50 Cent and G-Unit is more of a chicken-and-egg situation. Since 1999, G-Unit's mixtape moments have been among the most sought after on the streets, helping to pump up 50 Cent's status until he exploded onto the mainstream.
Unsurprisingly, BEG FOR MERCY delivers a blistering attack of street rap that survives on its own merits. While 50 Cent opens the show on "Poppin' Them Thangs," ...
