Blackstar Music Review Average Rating: (4.7 out of 5 stars) Yahzarah is the stuff , please believe it !!!! I love her !! Her voice is mesmerizing !! The first time I heard her music, she was in concert with Amel Leireux . If you ask me she took over. I have been hooked every since. Every time she comes to Detroit, I promise you I will be there each time. I have already purchased the same CD 3 times. I have no problem with doing it again and again . Looking for her to do something new ! Submitted by derjuana (Detroit, MI) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
FINALLY GOOD MUSIC IS COMING BACK Yahzarah has talent. Her voice is
so dynamic. I had the opportunity to
experience her live concert. What an incredible voice!! I can't wail until her next album.

The most slept on neo soul album ... This girl was Erykah Badu's background singer for a few years. If you ask me, Erykah should be singing backup for HER! Yahzarah is the bomb! There isn't another female vocalist (her age) that is on the same level talent-wise. Ashanti? Please! Beyonce? Gimme a break! Yahzarah is REAL. She is giving you something you can feel. I admit that I wasn't expecting to like the album this much, but I was pleasantly surprised. See for yourself. Check her out. Submitted by a reviewer (Worldwide) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Blackstar
$12.05 Additional personnel includes: Ursula Rucker (spoken vocals); James Poyser (various instruments); Doc Gibbs (percussion); King Britt (programming).
From Frank Sinatra to Britney Spears, popular music's most visible figures have often represented Western culture's obsession with youth, physical beauty and the pursuit of short-term romance over committed monogamous relationships. Apparently hoping to reverse the trend, with SURRENDER TO LOVE Kindred The Family Soul delivers what may be the first ...
| | Dwele Subject CD (2003)
Blackstar
$8.09 Meet the nu-soul--same as the old soul? Well, Dwele's debut certainly contains similarities to old-school artists such as Donny Hathaway and of course Stevie Wonder--all the evidence you need to connect the dots is here in the shimmering Fender Rhodes piano that predominates on SUBJECT.
But Dwele is made of more contemporary stuff. He's a rapper who's found his singing voice, though the only time his hip-hop roots really show is in the tumbling lyrics to the coming-of-age song "Twuneanunda" and the title ...
| | Anthony Hamilton Comin' From Where I'm From CD (2003)
Blackstar
$9.55 COMIN' FROM WHERE I'M FROM was nominated for the 2004 Grammy Award for Best Contemporary R&B Album. "Comin' From Where I'm From" was nominated for Best Traditional R&B Vocal Performance and for Best R&B Song.
Anthony Hamilton grew up in North Carolina, caught the eye of record companies, and released a major-label record in 1997, XTC, which was critically lauded, but mostly forgotten and quickly out-of-print. Following this setback, Hamilton hung around the music biz, working on his songwriting and background vocals, until his big break came in 2002, singing the hook for the Nappy Roots hit "Po' Folks."
The music on his second album, COMIN' FROM WHERE I'M FROM, transcends his rise-to-fame backstory. Hamilton is a soul singer in the truest sense of the phrase, a crooner with heart from the school of Curtis Mayfield, Bill Withers, and Teddy Pendergrass, as well as an intense songwriter on par with all of the above. The album features the vocalist standing as tall on more conventional modern R&B numbers like "I Tried" as on Philly throwbacks like "Better Days" and the darker storytelling soul of the title track. "Chyna Black" is a ...
| | Rhian Benson Gold Coast CD (2003)
Blackstar
$11.49 Born in Accra, and raised in Wales, Ghana and India and the UK where she is now settled, Rhian grew up in a very musical environment. Her Welsh mother was an accomplished singer, and her father, an Ashanti naval officer, is a gifted guitarist. Rhian started playing piano at the age of nine and picked up guitar soon after and before long, a budding singer songwriter. Behind the warm and honeyed voice is a sharp mind, Rhian gained an economics degree at the London School of Economics and worked in banking in the City for a time, a somewhat stark contrast to her own desires for a life in music. Her studies continued at Harvard in America, until her mother fell ill and Rhian returned home to care for her ailing mother. With time to think she found healing and release in music and decided to chase her singing dreams, feeling as though it was a risk worth taking in order to dance her heart’s dreams into life. Numerous open mic nights and various club slots in London followed and she found her voice often compared to Sade and Lauryn Hill. One night after a show Rhian was offered a deal by an executive from Los Angeles based label, DKG, and relocated to America to write and record her debut album ‘Gold Coast’ a title which beautifully reflects her childhood home of Ghana.Under the Californian ...
