Although they've often been compared to their slightly older Seattle cousins, Pearl Jam and Alice in Chains, Stone Temple Pilots were quite capable of creating their own sound, and this retrospective offers the proof. THANK YOU opens with the hard-charging "Vasoline" followed by "Down," a thick slab of Black Sabbath-like riffery. Though the grunge references of hits like the stomping "Wicked Garden" and the bizarrely catchy "Plush" are undeniable, STP come into their own on tunes from their second and third albums, PURPLE and TINY MUSICāSONGS FROM THE VATICAN GIFT SHOP. Ambitious tracks from these outings include the restlessly rocking "Interstate Love Song," the blues-based anthem "Big Empty," the new wave/punk-influenced "Big Bang Baby," and the energetic "Trippin' in a Hole in a Paper Heart." Despite a legacy tainted by singer Scott Weiland's drug problems, THANK YOU proudly displays how Stone Temple Pilots melded classic pop, metal, and grunge into a sound that garnered them a huge audience.

Rolling Stone (12/11/03, p.208) - 4 stars out of 5 - "...The constants: Weiland's brawny shape-shifting vocals, Dean DeLeo's flashy guitar heroics, Eric Kretz's mastodon stomp and the band's collective pop smarts..." S T P 4 Eva All the radio hits are here, along with a few others. I have all the Albums, but still found myself buying this GH. People, if you do not know about STP, where the BLEEP were you in the nineties? I remember waiting for the bus to come, and watching MTV in the Morn (back when they played videos) and there always seemed to be an STP video up on there. They rocked it, simple as that. Good greatest hits album Ive recently found out of Stone Temple Pilots and Im sorry that I havent found out about them earlier. Im still a huge alt/grunge fan growing up in the 90's and this has got to be one of the best ive heard. Sure its a little more smoother and refined than Nirvana or Pearl Jam, but in this case its a good thing. All the songs are sung very well and the sound is just amazing. I would recommend this to any grunge fan out there. Submitted by cerebralocelot (CA, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Thank You for the memories and the music 'Thank You' is a more than just a greatest hits ablum ... it's a tribute to the greatest band, in my opinion, to come out of rock 'n roll in the last 20 years. Submitted by Brian (Santa Barbara, CA, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Thank You
$8.75 "Plush" won the 1994 Grammy Award for "Best Hard Rock Performance With Vocal."
The group that put San Diego on the musical map, Stone Temple Pilots released their debut album with no fanfare, and caught the public's eye only after touring for a year. CORE's sound--relentlessly pounding guitars, a heavy bottom and a singer whose vocal style bled with some unseen pain--played perfectly into the swell of grunge that had been building up in the mainstream for two years before its release. Topically, CORE went beyond the the usual sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll fare associated with hard rock. The drill instructor intro that singer Weiland chants off at the beginning of "Dead & Bloated" is a disgusted swipe at the rivers of apathy coursing through America. The enigmatic singer often donned a dress on stage to drive home the point of the anti-rape song "Sex Type Thing."

| | Smashing Pumpkins Greatest Hits CD (2001)
Thank You
$11.39 Throughout the '90s, The Smashing Pumpkins used a mixture of prog-rock, dream-pop, psychedelia and heavy metal to drag the emerging alt-rock movement kicking and screaming into the mainstream. GREATEST HITS puts these fine finest moments on display along with a pair of previously unreleased cuts. Billy Corgan's brilliant leadership mixed angst-ridden lyrics with the kind of interplay with fellow guitarist James Iha that found the duo using different shadings of distortion the way artists use paint. Opening with the controlled chaos of "Siva," the chronological path makes pit-stops at the awesome power of "Cherub Rock," sweet optimism of "Today," lush beauty of "Tonight, Tonight" and electronica ...
| | Velvet Revolver Contraband CD (2004)
Thank You
$8.99 Timing your gigs and recording sessions around an unpredictable (and occasionally incarcerated) new lead singer might not seem the most auspicious start for a band. But when the singer is former Stone Temple Pilot Scott Weiland and the other musicians include Slash, Duff McKagan, and Matt Sorum--all veterans of Guns N' Roses--it's just business as usual. And these circumstances don't seem to have affected the supergroup's performance any, as evidenced by the outfit's raucous debut, CONTRABAND.
"Sucker Train Blues" roars out of the starting block, rocking like there's no tomorrow, with Weiland's seething vocals ...
| | Korn Greatest Hits Vol. 1 CD (2004)
Thank You
$9.79 GREATEST HITS VOL. 1 is a 17-track primer for Korn, a key force behind the "nu metal" tsunami that swept through pop music in the mid-to-late 1990s. Led by frontman (and former coroner's assistant) Jonathan Davis, these California natives weave low-tuned guitars, hip-hop-fueled bass lines, and bleak imagery into memorable songs like the bile-fueled stomp-fest "Right Now," goth-tinged "Alone I Break," and frenetically raw "Freak on a Leash."
Davis's struggle with family dysfunction is a consistent theme, from the band's self-titled 1994 debut (a foreboding "Clown"), right up through 2003's TAKE A LOOK IN THE MIRROR (an uber-heavy ...

Thank You
$12.09 Unquestionably one of the biggest rock bands of the 1990s, Pearl Jam, in many ways, were the star students of the grunge class. Though they didn't have the defiant, punk attitude of Nirvana nor the we-love-Sabbath metal edge of Soundgarden, the quintet found a huge audience for their relatively ...
