Howls of rage greeted Bob Dylan as he presented the world with rock music--he was roundly booed at both the Newport Folk Festival and the Royal Albert Hall. Yet here is one of those moments of cross-influence that changed the course of popular music. BRINGING IT ALL BACK HOME gave Dylan an audience on a plate; it was a massive breakthrough. An album of two different sides, acoustic (his past) and electric (his future), it contains milestones in the blues-rockers "Maggie's Farm" and "Subterranean Home Sick Blues," the future Byrds hit "Mr. Tambourine Man," and the transcendently poetic "It's Alright, Ma." You can debate the "is it folk or is it rock" argument forever. It's merely Dylan at one of his many peaks.

With Another Side of Bob Dylan, Dylan had begun pushing past folk, and with Bringing It All Back Home, he exploded the boundaries, producing an album of boundless imagination and skill. And it's not just that he went electric, either, rocking hard on "Subterranean Homesick Blues," "Maggie's Farm," and "Outlaw Blues"; it's that he's exploding with imagination throughout the record. After all, the music on its second side -- the nominal folk songs -- derive from the same vantage point as the rockers, leaving traditional folk concerns behind and delving deep into the personal. And this isn't just introspection, either, since the surreal paranoia on "It's Alright, Ma (I'm Only Bleeding)" and the whimsical poetry of "Mr. Tambourine Man" are individual, yet not personal. And that's just the tip of the iceberg, really, as he writes uncommonly beautiful love songs ("She Belongs to Me," "Love Minus Zero/No Limit") that sit alongside uncommonly funny fantasias ("On the Road Again," "Bob Dylan's 115th Dream"). This is the point where Dylan eclipses any conventional sense of folk and rewrites the rules of rock, making it safe for personal expression and poetry, not only making words mean as much as the music, but making the music an extension of the words. A truly remarkable album. [In 2003, Columbia/Legacy reissued 15 selected titles from Dylan's catalog as hybrid SACDs, playable in both regular CD players and Super Audio CD players. Each title is packaged as a digipak, containing the full original artwork. On each of the titles, and on each of the layers, the remastered sound is spectacular, a considerable upgrade from the initial CD pressings. Bringing It All Back Home was one of five titles that also included a 5.1 Surround Sound mix.] ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine

Originally released in 1965, this reissue is a hybrid CD consisting of remastered regular version playable on all players and a super audio CD version for players equipped with the format. 5.1 Surround Sound too! 11 tracks packaged in digipak format. Sony. 2003.

5 stars The Lyrical Genius of Bob Dylan
This album is one of the finest examples of the genius that is Bob Dylan. The way he uses insane imagery to convey messages is fantastic and just shows how skilled e actually is. Songs like "Gates of Eden", "It's Alright Ma...", and Bob Dylan's 115th Dream" are filled with intelligence and wit that shadows anyone who dares contend with them.

5 stars A real ear opener
Of all the 16 BD titles released in SACD, this one surprised me the most, in the sonics department. For some reason, Highway 61 Revisited did not recieve similar treatment - with that one, I find the improvement over the CD to be marginal. With Bringing it All Back Home, however, I was floored - I had not heard such realistic acoustic guitar, or such a full bottom end (on the electric tracks) before, and certainly did not expect such sonic improvements as are evident on this release. If you like Dylan's 60's work, and don't have a SACD player, I'd advise you to get one - and this SACD now!

4 stars Great Evolutionary Leap For Dylan
Bringing It All Back Home combines the folk guitar and ironic song content that Dylan built on in his early years with a new independence based in a confidence of his own songwriting ability. Needful in any Bob Dylan collection.

Principally recorded at the Record Plant, New York, New York in April and May 1968. On ELECTRIC LADYLAND Jimi Hendrix stretched and experimented in the studio, going beyond the power-trio format on what would be his last studio album with the Experience. ELECTRIC LADYLAND was revolutionary in its scope and execution. Using New York City's Record Plant as a gateway to free expression, Hendrix traversed an abstract landscape containing compositions as weird and wonderful as "...And The Gods Made Love" and "1983...(A Merman I Should Turn To Be)." Simultaneously looking ...

Ecstasy's Dance: The Best Of Narada Michael Walden CD  (1996)

Bringing It All Back Home music CDs
CD $11.19  Top 500 Audio Samples
There's no denying Narada Michael Walden's drumming chops, but he's also a very talented hitmaker as well. Since the '70s, he's scored several R&B hits as a solo artist, and is a top session musician to this day. He's played with the best (Jeff Beck, Kenny G., Mariah Carey, and Aretha Franklin) and has dabbled in just about every musical form -- dance, rock, fusion, soul, etc. Rhino has compiled the best of Walden's solo work, entitled Ecstasy's Dance: The Best of Narada Michael Walden, which showcases his many talents. Highlights include his two Top Ten R&B hits, "I Don't Want Nobody Else (To Dance With You)" and "I Shoulda Loved Ya," as well as the outstanding album tracks "Delightful" and "The Awakening." Other minor hits are also represented, such as "The Real Thang," "Divine Emotions," and a discofied version of the Holland/Dozier/Holland classic "Reach Out." Also included are nicely assembled and informative liner notes, as well as a message from Walden himself. ~ Greg Prato Includes liner notes by A. Scott Galloway. Personnel: Narada Michael Walden (vocals, piano, organ, keyboards, synthesizer, drums, tambourine, timbales, timpani, percussion); Norma Jean Bell (vocals, saxophone); Patti Austin (vocals, background vocals); Patti Scialfa, Will Lee (vocals); Corrado Rustici (guitar, midi guitar, cowbells, background vocals); Kenny Mazur, Hiram Bullock, Jay Graydon, Joaquin Lievano, Pat Thrall, Ray Gomez, Carlos Santana (guitar); Preston Glass (acoustic guitar, keyboards); Louis Colin (harp); David Sancious (electric sitar, Fender Rhodes ...

"The art of songwriting should not be reduced to least common denominators and mediocrity."Hallelujah, brother. That's Jason Michael Thomas, Indianapolis singer-songwriter, with his debut solo EP, Once Upon a Girl. Perhaps he looks familiar to you, or you'd swear you'd heard that voice before. If you're from the Midwest, you might know Jason from his work fronting the originals 'n' covers band X-Ray Roger Jimmy. If you're reading this, more than likely you hold in your hand said debut EP. Say it with me: Once Upon a Girl. Rolls nicely off the tongue, doesn't it? Clever, thoughtful, but not over the top. These six songs are the kinds you can sink your teeth into, sing along and relate to. They're songs about falling in love, growing with love, moving beyond love. They're songs of optimism ...
