| | Bobby Hutcherson Wise One CD (2009)
Tieru
$15.05 Unlike Bobby Hutcherson's previous super mellow effort For Sentimental Reasons, this recording is charged with increased energy and vitality, inspired by the music of John Coltrane. Hutcherson plays the part of Coltrane's tenor and soprano sax with his vibraphone quite tastefully, while guitarist Anthony Wilson adds a new chordal dimension to the music far different than a woodwind instrument. Pianist Joe Gilman is perfectly matched with his bandmates, a supple, inventive, yet forceful musician who lends great depth to the background, or in tandem with the lead instruments. California drummer and longtime confrère of Hutcherson Eddie Marshall plays as well as ever, while bassist Glenn Richman is the much lesser known but able fifth wheel. The leader is as familiar as anyone with this music, being a survivor of the turbulent '60s jazz scene, where he was in the midst of helping change the music. Here he adds extraordinary taste and precision to these originals of Coltrane's, and standards the saxophonist made his own. Perhaps the most beautiful of all Coltrane compositions is "Wise One," very well done in its flowing, no-time, introductory melody followed by a steady samba based mid-section, with Wilson's guitar gently urging it onward. "Equinox" is usually heard as interpreted by others in a Latin vein, but here ...

$6.85 All tracks have been digitally remastered using 20-bit technology.
Ultradiscs are mastered from the original master tapes using Mobile Fidelity's proprietary mastering technique, then plated with 24 karat gold and housed in a stress-resistant lift-lock jewel box.
As British bands like Yes, ELP, and Genesis extended the borders of rock & roll, John McLaughlin had seized the opportunity to do the same with jazz. The first stars of the jazz/rock fusion camp, the Mahavishnu Orchestra played sellout concerts, sold records in quantities previously unheard of by jazz musicians, and captured a crossover audience of forward-looking jazz devotees and progressive rock fans.
The music on THE INNER MOUNTING FLAME is incendiary and highly improvisational. Well-conceived unison melodic passages structure each tune, ...
| | George Winston Autumn CD (1980) Windham Hill 20th Anniversary Edition
Tieru
$8.89 Principally recorded on June 19-20, 1980. Includes liner notes by George Winston.
AUTUMN was superstar new age pianist George Winston's first album to sell more than 1,000,000 copies. Listening to these spare, emotionally rich pieces, it's easy to understand why. But it's also clear what sets Winston apart from the hordes of other new age piano soloists: an insistent--occasionally even jarring--gothic sensibility that informs his music.
Like many of his albums, AUTUMN found its inspiration in the seasonal changes wrought upon the Montana landscape that Winston calls home. Though it might be easy to pigeonhole a composition like "Woods" as easy listening, a more ...

| | Joan Enguita Two Suitcases CD (2005)
Tieru
$17.09 Joan Enguita, folk/Americana singer/songwriter from Lancaster, California released her first fully produced CD in 2005 to rave reviews. She has had over 70 performances in 2005, including Southern California, West Coast, Ireland and Denmark. REVIEW--MUZIKMAN---WWW.MUZIKREVIEWS.COM"Joan Enguita has put together a solid recording with TWO SUITCASES. Her beautiful falsetto voice is reminiscent of women vocalists that have made their mark such as Joan Baez and Joni Mitchell. Strange enough, after I had this thought I went to her website and started to read her bio and found that she got her start with a guitar and a Joan Baez songbook! With a strong stable of veterans from Nashville, Enguita puts together a solid recording; in fact, I did not hear a track that had any weaknesses. Everything about this release is top shelf, grade A material. From the lyrics, production, and musicanship to overall product that you hear coming out of your speakers, Enguita nails it down--she owns every word vocalized. This is tradional music in the sense that is does not have that aimed-for-the-charts gloss and fabricated sheen. This woman sings all the way from her toes to her heart on every song. You will hear everything from dobro to the Jew's Harp interspersed amongst the tracks. I heard a lot on this CD besides the oustanding music and terrific vocals. The lyrics were exceptionally warm and heartfelt.I can appreciate originality and an honest to goodness effort by an indie artist, and a smart one at that. Enguita had the record mastered by Capitol, which explains why the sound is so crisp and clean. This is as good as any country-pop that you are hearing on the radio any given day now. Actually it is better than a lot of the the music that is raking in the cash by the truckload. I say no more, check it out for yourself. You will see." --Keith HannalekREVIEW: WWW.COFFEEHOUSETOURS.COM "With her bags packed and ready for the next journey, Joan Enguita opens "Two Suitcases" with sudden ease. The first few notes that belt out of Joan's mouth are the hook, line, and sinker that is destined to capture listeners everywhere. The opening song is playfully flirty and fun as Joan dances with the lyrics in a one on one showdown of authority. Joan's stunning vocals is the selling point that will have you thanking the heavens above for producing such an angelic sound. "Two Suitcases" is hard to close; it's jammed pack full of a folk sound, united in harmony with country and Celtic. From start to finish, Joan holds the audiences' attention with one fo the most versatile voices around, giving them the performance ...
