Full Descriptionof GREATEST HITS VOL. 2, Michigan's answer to Bruce Springsteen had receded into the Boss' considerably large shadow, thanks to a self-imposed hiatus that found him recording only two studio albums in the 1990s. Despite the seemingly short attention span of the pop music world, this particular collection presents a fine argument that may reinforce Bob Seger's stature in the eyes of non-die-hard fans that only know him from regular rotation on classic rock radio.
This compilation dips into Seger's periodic soundtrack contributions ranging from TEACHERS' piano-driven "Understanding" and the soaring MOR Martina McBride duet "Chances Are" from HOPE FLOATS to "Shakedown," the rocker's only chart-topper from BEVERLY HILLS COP II. The collection also scratches the surface of Seger's influences, particularly when he goes back to 1981 and 1974, with covers of Rodney Crowell's countrified lament "Shame on the Moon" and Tom Waits' barfly anthem "New Coat of Paint," respectively. This Detroit native also tips a hat to his harder-rocking side by tossing classics like the salacious "The Fire Down Below," the howling "Her Strut," and "Tomorrow," a song written for this album that boasts a stomping tempo and Joan Osborne-like harmonies.

Bob Seger Greatest Hits Vol. 2 Songs Greatest Hits Vol. 2 Music Review Average Rating: (3.8 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews Good -- a few new songs too. If you are a Bob Seger fan who once collected his original albums (those round black vinyl things), you will enjoy the selections on this album. If you are just a "Greatest Hits" collector, I strongly recommend you get his GH Vol. 1 CD first. There are definitely a few tunes on here that you have never heard before! Good CD Includes the hard to find "Shame On The Moon", one of his better songs, in my opinion Submitted by wmaden (West Jordan, Ut.) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
GH 1 was the 5-star comp for Bob, but this is good Since it's awfully hard to compile one disc of this legend's career and call it Bob Seger's only hits album, it's wholeheartedly safe to say this second compilation is welcome. This is solid, and I have to say the box set can't be far behind. Submitted by ldolphin34 (Sheridan, WY via Tacoma, WA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Great Compilation from a Classic Rock Icon This album is a great addition to Seger's first greatest hits album. It covers a lot of the lesser known Seger songs like "Fire Lake" and "New Coat of Paint." It would have been nice if they would have included the live recording of "Ramblin' Gamblin' Man" from Live Bullet on here, and also I would have liked to have seen "Miami" appear on the track listing, but what it's got is good and it's still more than worthy of five stars. And what's with John from Muskegon? "If you buy this then you are a no-brainer just like his music"? Just because you don't like Seger's music doesn't mean to have to insult everybody who does. Somebody hug that guy... Submitted by Brent (Yorktown, VA, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
