| | Dino: The Essential Dean Martin CD (2004)
Find A Way MP3 Album
$10.89 (MP3 Available for Download) Nearly a decade after Dean Martin's death, the crooner's fans were finally given the definitive Dino collection. While there was already a two-disc summation of Martin's Capitol recordings, as well as several compilations of his Reprise material, the single-disc, 30-track DINO: THE ESSENTIAL DEAN MARTIN contains a generous selection of the best of his work, culling from both labels' vaults. Steubenville, Ohio's favorite son became a singing star in the 1950s, mostly by virtue of his smooth, easy charm, apparent both in his vocal style and his public image. That charm is crystallized here--the South American lilt of "Sway;" ...

Find A Way CD music
$17.15 The album alternates between upbeat bluesy numbers, such as the swinging "Shouldn't Have Left Me" and the jaunty "Better Lovin' Man," and slow, stately numbers. The closer, "Five Long Years" contains a particularly eloquent solo, King's trademark bends and silences seeming to speak the language of his hurt soul. He delivers his most anguished vocal of the record, singing "she had the nerve to put me out..." in a manner that will give you chills.
B.B. King rarely departs from the foundation of the blues, but on this release, he fleshes out his characteristically spare sound with the addition of a 12-man horn section--including crack session player David Sanborn--which provides a punchy counterpoint to King's vocals and guitar playing. He doesn't indulge Lucille as much as on some other recordings, but there ...
| | Hellecasters Essential Listening Vol. 1 CD (2002)
Find A Way MP3 Album
$10.69 (MP3 Available for Download) Recorded in Hollywood, California and London, England between 1995 & 2002. Includes liner notes by Jim Cowan.
The Hellecasters play some fierce guitar. Their decade and three albums are keenly summed up on this fine collection, which stuffs in representative chunks of jazz, blues, pop, rock, and country. The thing is, these vets are pretty fluid in just about everything they do, so it's occasionally tough to discern one track from another (or one player from another, for that matter). A couple of unreleased cuts and a rarity are bait for fans, but novices will get the most from Essential Listening. While it helps to be a guitar freak, this trio's blend of Allman Brothers-style jams and playful heavy metal rips solidly convinces that even prodigious technical wizards are capable of having fun. ~ Michael Gallucci

| | Paul Desmond Bridge Over Troubled Water CD (1969) (Import) Japan
Find A Way music CDs
$32.35 BRIDGE OVER TROUBLED WATER is jazz saxophone icon Paul Desmond's homage to Simon and Garfunkel.
Originally released in 1970 on A&M Records, Paul Desmond's BRIDGE OVER TROUBLED WATER is the label's last release to bear the influence of producer Creed Taylor. Like Taylor's earlier A&M albums with Desmond, Wes Montgomery and others, BRIDGE OVER TROUBLED WATER is a complex blend of cool jazz, easy listening, and pop, featuring lush orchestrations behind Desmond's alto sax and Herbie Hancock's electric piano. Taken entirely from the Paul Simon songbook, the 10 cuts range from a hymn-like reading of the title track to a spunky Latin-jazz take on "Cecilia." The 2008 Verve reissue features no bonus tracks, but has excellent remastered sound.
Simon & Garfunkel's 'Bridge Over Troubled Water' was the hottest album in the land in 1970, & Paul Simon's tunes from that & their earlier albums unexpectedly find a congenial advocate in Paul Desmond. Against the odds as determined by bopsters, Desmond finds something beautiful, wistful, and/or sly ...
