If you traced Rainbow from the beginning of their career to the end, it's like hearing two entirely different bands. Starting out as a Dungeons and Dragons prog metal-esque outfit that lived for extended solos, the group morphed into a refined, radio/MTV-friendly rock outfit by the early '80s. The arrival of singer Joe Lynn Turner helped signal this change, and it's a sound/approach that the singer embraces to this day, as evidenced by Turner's 2003 solo effort, JLT. In fact, sprinkle a few Ritchie Blackmore fluid leads on such tracks as "In Cold Blood" and "Drivin' with My Eyes Closed," and you'd have tracks that would fit perfectly on Straight Between the Eyes, while elsewhere, Turner focuses on bluesy Zeppelin territory (especially "Jump Start"). Overall, JLT proves that Turner's vocal talents remain strong, and that he hasn't turned his back on the style that brought him where he is today. ~ Greg Prato

5 stars Still going strong
Joe's voice is strong, his ideas fresh. He is constantly touring around the world, still going strong. This CD is a great listen, cool songs, hot production, nice variety of tempos! Songwriter Chris Marksbury helped out and not many people are aware but Guitar WHIZ Joe Bonamassa played on several tracks as well!

Joe is a great singer, this album rocks. Also try "Mothers Army" if you can find any. Joe sings for this band also. 3 albums and NONE available in the USA, c'mon cduniverse get these for us also! JLT keeps rock alive. Also Try HTP (HUGHES TURNER PROJECT) YOU WON'T BE DISAPOINTED!

5 stars Excessively recommendable cd of JLT!!
I dunno if this is the best work of JLT but the cd got at least 3 excellent tracks: Excess, is the kind of song that any metal-hard rock fan enjoys easly a very hard sound, pefect lyrics & incredible vocal job, you gonna love it. For romantic audience Love don´t love hear, JLT like a chameleon can sing everything!! and finally, Cryin´out loud, the bluse share of the cd, check it the powerfull blues voice of Joe, High recommendable

5 stars Joe keeps rocking !!
I have always been impressed with JLT's voice [since pre-Fandango days.] He seems to get better and better. Some real solid songwriting, nice production. This is a great effort and well worth buying. Favorite track is Excess - a real classic !! Can't wait until JLT 2. Let's get Ritchie Blackmore away from the minstrels and laying down some ROCK guitar on a song or two !!!
