My High School music teacher played this in our Music Theory class about 30 years ago.. and I have been looking for this album ever since.... It's such a different arrangment of Xmas songs... Swing, Dixieland, Big Band... it's great!

The All-Day Christmas Album!
This is a festive, instrumental jazz album that uses Christmas songs as its base, but then adds humour and some incredible musicians to make for an album that you can just leave playing all day. We'd listened to this album for years in our family until it was lost in a move, and a new generation got to discover it when it was re-released this year. My 9-year-old niece spent the day asking about jazz, and my 4-year-old nephew was amused by the unexpected 'bird' sounds in "Christmas Is For the Birds." Humour in the music and the liner notes are an "Ira Ironstrings" trademark, but in the re-release, Ira's identity can be revealed!

This is Xmas to us!
I am astounded by the number of folks who grew up with this album!I'm also really happy to find this on CD, as we have the original vinyl which has been passed around so many times we can't keep track. It's held together with black electrical tape and we are amazed it doesn't skip.

Actually I think it's Lou Busch!
I do believe that Ira Ironstrings was actually pianst Lou Busch, a.k.a Joe "Fingers" Carr, (as his name is credited as composer on some of the songs on the original LP's label), not Alvino Rey. I think Rey functioned as the producer of the LP (and possibly played guitar). Nonetheless, a great fun CD to listen to.
