The 1990s may not have been kind to Michael Jackson on a commercial level, due to fickle music tastes and assorted personal controversies, but NUMBER ONES reinforces Jackson's place in pop culture history. Unlike its preceding compilation, HIStory, this anthology trims the fat, although occasionally going overboard in leaving off certified chart-toppers like the Paul McCartney duet "Say Say Say" in lieu of lesser-known, latter-day fare like "Earth Song."
That said, casual fans of the Gloved One will still feast on plenty, ranging from dance classics like "Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough" and "Rock with You" from 1979's stellar OFF THE WALL to the singles that powered the industry-shifting THRILLER and BAD. Among the hits featured here are "Beat It," (with its tour de force Eddie Van Halen solo), the scathing "Dirty Diana" (with Steve Stevens substituting for Van Halen), and catchy title cuts from the aforementioned albums. Meanwhile, Alien Ant Farm fans get to reacquaint themselves with the original "Smooth Criminal," and R. Kelly fans get to experience Jacko croon "One More Chance," the single new song that was penned and produced by Kelly.

Michael Jackson Number Ones Songs Number Ones Music Review Average Rating: (4.6 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews Michael Mania Number Ones is an awesome collection of Michaels number 1 hit songs. But they left out a few songs.Ok he has all of his number hits from the U.S. but if they put Earth Song which was a number 1 hit in England and U.K. Then why didn't they add the rest of the number one hits that werent number 1 in the U.S.Like for example..Wanna Be Startin Something was #1 in Britain and Blood On The Dance Floor was #1 In U.K.and Say Say Say they forgot to add which was a number 1 hit worldwide. But after this I believe that this is a good album. $9.85 Through out my entire life I had always wanted to create some type of literary work. Wanted to write a book, poem, or most of all country music. At times song melodies or lyrics would come to me but as quickly as they were there they would vanish into space. I decided to try to hold on to some of these inspirations and began carrying a notebook and recorder with me in the pickup truck since my inspirations usually come while driving. The bits and pieces that would become my first country music song - River Of Life - came to me one day while driving home from town. I pulled over and wrote down what had come to me and thus began my first country music song. Had a very difficult time with the first one and wrote a lot more on it in solitude up in the mountains. My daughter Shannon came up with the melody and the chorus for it and finally together we created the first original work that I had ever been a part of creating. From there on other songs came to me. Some of them were good, others not, but most of them had a story behind their creation. When Shannon became pregnant with her second child, she worried about her figure and that she looked fat. I simply could not pass up an opportunity to give her a bad time and aggravated her by calling her Hulga. This eventually evolved into Hulga The Horrible. One evening around the kitchen table the lyrics and melody for the song come to me just like they'd been dropped from the sky.My wife commented that she couldn't see how anyone could stand to have such a horrible bunch of crap like that in their head. I replied that I couldn't stand it either and that was why I had written it down and given it to them because that way it was theirs and it wasn't stuck in my head anymore. When Shannon's baby girl was born she named her Isabella. It was on the night she was born that the first lyrics and melody for the song Isabella came to me. This one took along time to come together completely but as with most things if you just have patience things have a way of fulfilling themselves. It was later on in this same fateful year that Shannon got mixed up with the wrong crowd, got into drugs, and then into trouble with the law. It was from this tragic series of events that she lost custody of her son and Isabella was taken into the custody of the Department Of Health And Welfare of the state of Idaho. Needless to say it was from this nightmare that the country song Shannon evolved. Seems like at that point my wife and I were living in a nightmare that you just couldn't wake up from. Most every song that's come to me has some sort of story behind it. We have a contracting business and I end up spending part of the year staying in a motel 200 miles from home. As I was reflecting on my feelings for my wife, Louise, one evening in the motel the melody and lyrics for the song Lovin You came to me. Another time sitting in the motel room alone and ready to get some sleep I was listening to the music playing. Suddenly I realized that there was no music playing except in my head and I wrote down the lyrics and thus ...
