(3 Customer Reviews)
Not since the legendary performances by Simon & Garfunkel and later Garth Brooks has there been as big an event in New York's beloved Central Park as the AOL-sponsored 2003 Dave Matthews concert. The DMB had spent the last decade cementing its ... Full Descriptioniconic status, so this was a major happening attended by hordes of faithful followers. Though Matthews would soon after take a break from the band to explore other musical areas, he and his longtime cohorts Boyd Tinsley, Carter Beauford, et al, tear it up with the easy confidence of skilled veterans.
Though much of this three-disc set is appropriately taken up with the DMB's trademark amalgam of funk, pop, rock, and jazz, Dave and the boys do mix things up a bit. Allman Brothers/Gov't Mule guitarist Warren Hayes joins the band for a gritty, extended take on Neil Young's gauzy epic "Cortez the Killer," and Bob Dylan's "All Along the Watchtower" later becomes a springboard for a volcanic display of the instrumentalists' abilities. Of course, the band trots their hits out as well--"What Would You Say," "Ants Marching," and more--but THE CENTRAL PARK CONCERT paints a much wider picture of the Dave Matthews Band's sound.

Even Better Live!!! DMB is amazing. You hear studio versions of DMB songs and you think "this is really good", and then you hear them live and you get blown away. DMB is one of those bands who just "groove" when they are live and there is nothing else like it in the world. Altogether an unbelievable album. Great concert band. Some might dock the band down for the fact that some of the songs have been heard on concert CDs previously. It makes no difference on this one. Each song has its own little nuances, separate from any other moment. At times, it seems as though Dave is "in the zone," especially when doing his jibberish toward the end. I would say this is sort of a defining moment for the band, who just played lights-out. Submitted by thesportszone (Pullman, WA, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Central Park Concert album
$6.39 This audio document of The Corrs' Dublin homecoming concert has pretty much everything fans of Irish pop could wish for, including an appearance from Bono in his earthly incarnation, fresh from an audience with President George W. Bush. It's to the band's credit that the charismatic singer fails to steal the show, despite creditable efforts via an anthemized version of Ryan Adams' beautifully downtempo "When the Stars Go Blue," and a great, leering rendition of Lee Hazlewood and Nancy Sinatra's "Summer Wine."
Somewhat more mysteriously, Rolling Stone Ron Wood also turns up on what sounds dangerously close to a lounge version of Jimi Hendrix's "Little Wing," but this minor faux pas is redeemed by the Irish folk medley "Joy of Life/Trout in the Bath" which arguably features more full-on Irishness than the Dublin production ...

Central Park Concert CD music
$12.05 A sprawling two-disc set, the Drive-By Truckers' SOUTHERN ROCK OPERA is a cracked masterpiece that's enjoyable on several different levels. Hipsters might enjoy the giggly premise of a two-disc set devoted to a slightly altered retelling of the rise and fall of 1970s Southern rock icons Lynyrd Skynyrd. Progressive rock fans lamenting the modern era's relative lack of story-driven albums divided into "Act I" and "Act II" will latch onto SOUTHERN ROCK OPERA with the same passion with which they embraced THE LAMB LIES DOWN ON BROADWAY. And most importantly, unreconstructed Southern rockers of the ...
| | Dave Matthews Band Busted Stuff CD (2002) Enhanced CD
Central Park Concert music CDs
$14.49 "Where Are You Going" was nominated for the 2003 Grammy Awards for Best Pop Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal.
The Dave Matthews Band built its huge following in the '90s through their explosive live shows, where their swirling, propulsive blend of funk rhythms, jazzy harmonies, and unusual time signatures endeared them to crowd after crowd. BUSTED STUFF seems like the culmination of a process that's been underway ever since the band's heady, jam-band beginnings. While the musical muscle-flexing of Matthews and company is still in evidence, a greater emphasis than ever seems to be placed on the melodic songcraft aspect of things. The chorus of "Grey Street" for example, is one of the most accessible, pop-friendly moments in the Matthews canon to date. Even Matthews's legendarily quirky, clipped singing style is broadened ...

Although conflict has been more or less a stranger around the Dave Matthews Band camp, such was not the case in 2001 when a creative impasse with producer Glen Ballard came during the recording of EVERYDAY and its follow-up BUSTED STUFF. LIVE AT FOLSOM ...

$10.15 The OffRamps have been together for over 6 years. Raised on a steady diet of power-pop, punk, classic rock and Americana, the 3 members met after sharing stages as members of such established Detroit/Ann Arbor bands as The Holy Cows, SlugBug, Culture Bandits, Clashback, 3 Speed and The Hoolapoppers, to name a few.
