Verde Que Te Quero Rosa
$12.59 Black Eyed Peas, the hip-hop crossover juggernaut that propelled singer Fergie and producer Will.I.Am to superstardom, have, since 2003's ELEPHUNK, been audaciously plugging away at their bombastic but lighthearted style of rap-cum-dance pop--an effort that has translated to a run of successful chart-topping singles including "My Humps," "Pump It," and "Don't Phunk with My Heart." Eager to follow up on the platinum-selling success of 2005's MONKEY BUSINESS, Black Eyed Peas have returned with THE E.N.D. (an acronym for "Energy Never Dies"), their third studio effort. Combining Will.I.Am's thumping 808 kick drum-infused beats with production assistance from a host of collaborators (including vocoder-loving Torontoians MSTRKRFT and French house veteran David Guetta), BEP's ...
| | Baroness Blue Record CDs (2009) Limited Edition; Deluxe Edition
Verde Que Te Quero Rosa
$13.58 Georgia-based psychedelic rock band (calling them a metal act seems very reductive, though there's some seriously headbangable material on this disc) Baroness has made a subtle but unmistakable evolutionary leap on this, their second full-length and a clear companion piece to 2007's RED ALBUM. It's hard to say exactly what new guitarist Pete Adams has brought to the band after replacing drummer Allen Blickle's brother Brian, but the band's established blend of Southern sludge riffs, druggy instrumental journeys, and melodic interstitial interludes, all propelled by a particularly thudding drum sound and held together by John Baizley's hoarse but clean vocals and gorgeous cover art, are even ...
| | Michael Jackson: The Remix Suite CD (2009) Remixes
Verde Que Te Quero Rosa
$11.16 Two months after the death of pop icon Michael Jackson, and still fresh from a spate of memorials and celebrations to his genius, Universal Motown began releasing a series of download "suites" (remixed versions of classic MJ and Jackson 5 tunes) via iTunes, each suite revealed two weeks apart, a total of four suites in all. The complete installments appear ...
| | Atreyu Congregation Of The Damned CD (2009)
Verde Que Te Quero Rosa
$11.16 On their latest effort, Atreyu come with more of the same metalcore that listeners have come to expect from the band. All of the familiar elements are in place, with the alternating screaming/soaring vocals, thundering double bass drumming, and big, crunchy riffage. The difference here is that the band seems to have mellowed out a bit, opting for a more melodic approach. Like their last album, the songs here feel somewhat restrained, like they're just dying to break free of the polished production. The intensity of ...
| | Flight Of The Conchords I Told You I Was Freaky CD (2009) Digipak
Verde Que Te Quero Rosa
$12.44 After a glorious first season that earned the HBO show six Emmy nominations, Flight of the Conchords' second run didn't quite pack the same comedic punch. Some would say it was because the premise lost its luster, but it was mostly because the music just wasn't as strong. Most of the songs in Season One were pre-written and hashed out over years of stand-up, and for Season Two, Jemaine Clement and Bret McKenzie were in a time crunch: forced to write a dozen or so funny songs and ten episodes from scratch. Considering the circumstances, FOTC's second Sub-Pop outing, I TOLD YOU I WAS FREAKY, has some worthwhile moments. In the R. Kelly-based "We're in Love with a Sexy Lady," Bret and Jemaine debate semantics while trying to determine if they're after the same lazy-eyed girl. "When'd you meet this lady?/Then./When?/Then./Right then?/Right then./Where?/There./Over there?/Over there./Over there there?/Over there there there," and so on, building up to Bret's ultimate question, "Was her name Brabra?" To which Jemaine replies, No I think it was Barbara."..."It was Barbara there's no such name as Brabra." It's the same straight-faced humor fans have grown to love. There's no satire quite as on-point as their tribute to David Bowie, but the duo busts out a hearty batch of sad-faced raps ("Hurt Feelings"), dance party hits ("Suga Lumps" and "Too Many Dicks on the Dance Floor"), ...

| | Avenged Sevenfold City Of Evil CD (2005) Edited
Verde Que Te Quero Rosa
$10.59 Even though Avenged Sevenfold's first two albums clearly got them lumped into the emo camp, the California quintet always hinted at the heavy metal influence of bands like Iron Maiden. With their major-label debut CITY OF EVIL, not only have they fleshed out these tendencies via the intricate riffing of dual guitarists Zacky Vengeance and Synyster Gates, but they've begun to dabble with more intricate, prog-like song structures. And with singer M. Shadows recovering from vocal chord surgery, he employs a considerably more melodic approach.
The first half of CITY cleaves to what longtime fans have come to expect: dive-bombing call-and-response riffing and furious double-bass-drum attacks, peppering cuts like the soaring ...
