Present for Everyone is the quickie follow-up to Busted's self-titled hit debut, and it's immediately obvious that the trio's flair for a mischievous lyric hasn't lessened. Featureless pop-punk opener "Air Hostess" finds the blokes fancying a snog with the titular airline employee. But what's this? Amidst lines like "I messed my pants when we flew over France" are smarmy acknowledgements of Busted's newfound fame -- the boys can't close the deal for fear of the ever-present paparazzi. Aw. "Crashed the Wedding" adds whizzing synths to the existing formula of crackling, energetic, electric guitars and irrepressible harmony choruses; "Who's David" is a cheatin' heart tale to the tune of Simple Plan, Good Charlotte, or any of America's glossy pop punks that have stepped into the niche blink-182 made. Though its supposed grit is equally as processed, Present for Everyone at least sheds the boy band vestiges that tripped up Busted's debut. Though it's way too long at 15 tracks, the album at least sticks to its template of earnest, slightly bawdy tales of boys and girls ("When I woke up/I was so proud to see/You lying naked next to me", from "That Thing You Do") wrapped around peppy, ultra slick, and sickeningly in-the-moment guitar pop. Fans of the group's first effort should fully enjoy this Present; just don't expect it to be the gift that keeps on giving. ~ Johnny Loftus
Sophomore album from the hugely successful British pop-punk trio is another punk-flavored splatter of hard-rockin' pop all written by the boys themselves. Highlights include the first single, 'Crashed the Wedding', 'Air Hostess', 'Who's David', & 'Meet You There'. 13 tracks. Universal. 2003.
Busted: their latest fab offering! Busted have really grown up in this album with their beautiful ballads and rocking sing-a-long tunes. The boys natural interests and views are shown in this album and they've expressed themselves so much more. I really recommend it to anyone who has good music taste and loves a variety of tunes. It really is a fantastic album. Submitted by Michelle (Dundalk, Louth, Ireland.) Was This Review Helpful? YesNo
Be blown away by BUSTED!! After being slightly disappointed with the boys' first offering, I wasn't completely convinced that this purchase would be a good one. Good job I gave it try because 'A Present for everyone' is the best CD I've bought in a long while. Catchy starters 'Air Hostess' and 'Crashed the wedding' lead brilliantly on to the gorgeuos rock ballads '3am' and 'Meet you there'. All of the lad's unique sounds can be heard on this album. There also happens to be some ingenious lyrics such as 'It's quite uncanny, coz my favourite film is when Harry met Sally', which comes from the track 'Fake'-aptly namedto describe a boy's frustrations at not 'getting off'. Other highlights include 'she wants to be me' and the loser-kid-esque 'Nerdy'. Have a buy and play some air guitar in your bedrooms-you'll have a barrel of laughs!!!
