On A Cloud album
$13.05 Diana Krall's first studio outing since she and husband Elvis Costello became the proud parents of twin boys, 2009's QUIET NIGHTS finds the jazz singer/pianist turning in a serene and pleasantly subdued set. Krall breezes through a few bossa nova standards, most notably "The Girl from Ipanema" (here gender-reversed to "The Boy...") and the title track (originally "Corcovado"), both penned by the legendary Antonio Carlos Jobim. QUIET NIGHTS isn't solely a Brazilian-themed outing, however, as Krall also spends plenty of time in the comfortable realm of the Great American Songbook, offering up elegant orchestral ...

$12.95 "Un-Break My Heart" won a 1997 Grammy for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance, and "You're Makin Me High" won a 1997 Grammy for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance. "You're Makin Me High" was also nominated for Best R&B Song, and SECRETS was nominated for Best Pop Album.
German version has three additional cuts, "You're Makin' Me High (T'Empo Mix)," "Unbreak My Heart (Classic Radio Mix)," and "I Don't Want To (Frankie Knuckles Radio Edit)."
Toni Braxton is one of the most promising divas of the '90s, with a sophisticated sound and traditional R&B style that puts her in a class with Whitney Houston and Anita Baker. With the help of R&B's leading songwriter, Babyface, she can deliver the perfect love song (such as "Let It Flow," which also appeared on 1995's mega-hit soundtrack WAITING TO EXHALE). SECRETS, her second album, is a soulful journey through her heart.
SECRETS combines Braxton's sultry vocals with the genre's more creative producers. Tony Rich paints the background of "Come On Over Here," Babyface and Groove Theory's Bryce Wilson beef up the track for the hot single "You're Making Me High," and R. Kelly provides the soft bump-and-grind sound for "I Don't Want To."
SECRETS is filled with original material. No samples. No remakes. And with a debut album that earned her the 1994 Grammy for Best New Artist, it is no SECRET that Toni Braxton is destined to repeat her success.
Her multi-platinum smash second album with remixes of ...

$14.69 BEN BLACK BIOGRAPHY The earliest influences for me were in listening to my parent's records. I was influenced by my mothers love of Sergio Mendes and Brazil 66, The Singers Unlimited, Nina Simone, and so many of the great musicals of that era. As a young teen I uncovered Mom's old recording of "Sarah Vaughan at Kelly's. This album was a real spiritual awakening for me. These early beginnings and interests in diverse cultures are reflected in my music. My ancestry is armenian, slovenian, german, and scotch/ irish. I borrow from other cultures with respect and gratitude, the nuances of diversity in an ever-changing world. Music is the poetry of the heart. It's honesty cuts through boundaries where nothing else can. It often takes the mask off of age-old ills that lurk in all cultures. This is one of the lofty and real goals and effects of music...to lead us to a better understanding of all, to see beyond the outward and obvious.... to learn to love and be loved. There is an early part of my experience to share that is such an influence of love in my life. It is the summers of my childhood, spent with my family on my grandparents ranch. It was here that I experienced the endless joys of being a boy in the country, the awe of childhood, feeling truly connected to the earth, nature, and the sights and sounds around me. I can still remember all the wonderful smells of freshly baked bread, of the herbal lotions and liniments that grandma used, and the sweet country air. The awe and wonder and innocence and mystery of childhood.... The feeling of connectedness with your land and your people. Their poetry, their music of the country is my roots. It is the influence of this music and love that so molds and shapes my music, casting its complexion throughout. No matter where I go, or what happens, this eternal wellspring of love lives in my heart. The family has changed; people have grown up and passed on. The end of an era. But the raw richness of this heritage is ...

This is a Hybrid Super Audio CD playable on both regular and Super Audio CD players.
Recorded on March 22, 1956. Originally released on Prestige (7038-2). Includes liner notes by Ira Gitler.
Following his Chicago sabbatical of 1955-56, Sonny Rollins was spiritually and physically rejuvenated. And on this date, he's clearly inspired by Max Roach and Clifford Brown's depth of spirit. Multi-dimensional re-arrangements of popular songs were a Brown-Roach trademark. "Kiss And Run" is treated to a stop and go intro, then settles into a brisk 4/4, as Rollins, Brown and the perenially underrated Richie Powell fashion long dancing lines. "I Feel A Song Coming On" creates tension by alternating a vamp figure with a swinging release. Rollins takes an immense solo, contrasting chanting figures and foghorn-like long tones with Parker-ish elisions, and Brown answers with buzzing figures and daring harmonic extensions. Then Roach takes things out with sweeping melodic choruses and polyrhythmic fanfares, setting the stage for a torrid tenor-trumpet duel.
On "Valse Hot," we have an early ...
