There's definitely a concept of a journey about this album, but it's the kind of trip you'll be happy to make. Yes, it's gypsy music, coming from a Serbian home, but traveling everywhere -- note the Indian inflection on "India Rroma," where guitar sounds like sitar, balancing a delicate violin line over chord changes that could almost have been lifted from "Get Back," filtered through, well, China. Odd, but enticing, which is also true of the rest of the disc, like the breakdown that comes at the end of "Me Sem Rrom," where cimbalom and violin take off like Serbian bluegrass, after a track that gives a nod to the U.S. with its bluesy inflections. Considering that Olah Vince has been playing professionally for 40 years, this is a major step forward not just for himself, but for gypsy music in general, an adventurous, daring disc. On "Vranje-Rromans," with guest trumpeter Boban Markovic heavily overdubbed in a fanfare, Vince's guitar work connects the dots between flamenco, the Balkans, and the Middle East in a magnificent way. And he's not afraid of being quieter, either, as on "A#-Rromans," a lyrical piece with echoes of a fading past. A magnificent record. ~ Chris Nickson

Waltz Rromano album
$11.49 Perhaps this is what a techno artist would create to incite monks to dance: innocent grooves, sacred texts. Until, there enters another breathy, sensual woman with sultry French talk. By now there's a compelling dance groove, which builds for a few minutes, then finally plateaus into a space filled with dripping sounds where the beat is kept afloat by the rhythmic panting of our seductress. Gradually this grows as more instruments are added, and she continues, this time in English, with "The Principles Of Lust." Finally the panting becomes erratic, the Monks sing backwards, and Enigma has another ...

Waltz Rromano CD music
$14.59 Ryan Farish is one of the most popular purveyors of easy listening electronica in the United States, even though most people don't know his name. Where most listeners have experienced Farish's music is on the Weather Channel, which features his compositions regularly during the Local on the 8's forecast, as well as on the intro to Storm Stories. As his name has risen in profile, his site on mp3.com has gotten a steadily increasing number of hits, and his debut album Beautiful ended up on Billboard's Top Ten chart for new age music. His third album finds him exploring more extensively ...

Waltz Rromano CD music
$7.59 After his wildly successful DARE TO DREAM album, the iconic New Age performer Yanni decided to rein in the dense, propulsive, synthesizer-heavy element of his music, opting for a more intimate, piano-led sound on 1993's IN MY TIME. The stylistic change certainly didn't hurt the Greek superstar's popularity; if anything, it increased his already-high profile, leading to the multi-platinum concert performance LIVE AT THE ACROPOLIS.

| | Chieftains 9: Boil The Breakfast Early CD (2002)
Waltz Rromano album
$5.95 The ninth album by the Chieftains came at a traumatic time for the group, which had recently lost two founding members, tin whistle player Sean Potts and multi-instrumentalist Martin Tubridy, and was starting to be considered past its prime by some who felt that the ensemble had stagnated artistically. 1980's CHIEFTAINS 9: BOIL THE BREAKFAST EARLY blows a spirited raspberry to that idea.
Replacing Potts and Tubridy with the enthusiastic flute player Matt Malloy (formerly of the Bothy Band and Planxty), the group sounds re-energized. They not only play the jigs and reels with newfound energy ...
