(7 Customer Reviews)
On her umpteenth album, Australian diva Kylie Minogue continues to dish out the dance-floor-ready tunes. Following up her international hit, "Can't Get You Out of My Head," Minogue isn't content to rehash that song; instead, she wraps herself in a luxurious robe of electro-beats and dreamy synthesizers. BODY LANGUAGE starts off with the sensual "Slow," a remarkably spare song that glides along on simple synth lines, bubbling beats, and, of course, Minogue's airy coo. This formula works well on other tracks, including the saucy "Secret (Take You Home)," the celebratory "Sweet Music," and the Bjork-like "Someday." Minogue also dips into past decades on certain tracks, such as the 1980s-inspired, vocoder-laced pop of "Still Standing" and the '70s guitar-driven funk of "I Feel for You." Throughout the album, Minogue works her BODY LANGUAGE with giddy pleasure, easily putting most of her contemporaries to shame.
Personnel includes: Kylie Minogue (vocals); Johnny Douglas (various instruments); Julian Gallagher, Alvin Sweeney (programming); Cathy Dennis (background vocals).
Producers include: Cathy Dennis, Kurtis Mantronik, Johnnyv Douglas, Baby Ash, Sunnyroads.
This is an Enhanced CD, which contains both regular audio tracks and multimedia computer files.Rolling Stone (2/19/04, p.70) - 3 stars out of 5 - "[S]he turns up the heat, working her seductive voice in Prince-style electro-glitz disco gems..." Entertainment Weekly (2/13/04, p.71) - "[She's] whip-smart about creating a none-too-obvious alchemy between '80s pop-funk and '00s chill-out. The results are ludicrously enjoyable..." - Rating: B+ Q (01/01/04, p.75) - Ranked #50 in Q's "The 50 Best Albums of 2003" - "[It took] Prince's '80s blueprint for strident sexuality, spiked it with sci-fi effects and shimmied its way to perfection." Good I'm usually not a big pop fan, but this is a catchy album. Well crafted. Submitted by Kato (Muncie, IN) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
BODY LANGUAGE is a great slow burn! Kylie Minogue has proven to be an artist who transcends musical genres! While it is true that she has demonstrated proficiency primarily in pop, she has flexed her creative and artistic muscles for the incredible Body Language. It is refreshing to hear an artist using her voice instead of being used by her voice! As a true pop icon, Kylie has transcended the "pop princess" classification and gone on to become a true diva! Kylie has not only eclipsed Madonna, but is now on par with Cher (at half Cher's age)! Body Language finds Kylie taking the tempo of her art down a notch from the fever pitch of "Fever". Say it with me: "Slow can be very, very good". Just think about any of your favorite things you could do, only really nice and really slow! Kylie incorporates some R&B and even hip-hop flavors, borrowing samples from pop classics as diverse as 'Dead or Alive' and some of the best old-school flavors of Motown and Hi Records releases from the funkadelic 70s. What truly sets Body Language apart is Kylie's masterful fusion of her sound as well as many other diverse influences. 'Red Blooded Woman' is, perhaps, the most danceable track on the record: this track most resembles the more up-tempo Fever mood. 'Slow' is the kind of song that doesn't seem danceable at first; only once you find a nice, slow groove to enjoy it does this track's true brilliance emerge. The CD is rounded out nicely by a diverse variety of tracks that will keep you smoothly groovin'! Whether you're working-out, driving, or whatever, Body Language is the best
companion you could choose! Delivering on the promise of all Kylie is, transcending the pure R&B mold, and serving up what Britney Spears meant to do with her "In the Zone" release; this is one truly satisfying CD! Cruise Control and You Make Me Feel are great bonuses for the US release as are the videos for Slow and Can’t Get You Out Of My Head live from the Money Can’t Buy concert. Be sure to check out the awesome new Chemical Brothers Remix of Slow featured on the Queer Eye for the Straight Guy soundtrack too! Submitted by David (Jenks, OK, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Body Language album
$11.18 With Adam Lambert, American Idol finally got a finalist who was completely, utterly contemporary, aware of what's hip in music and culture and aware of how music is made and consumed in 2009, never seeming to try to follow fads or set trends, just embodying the time. Mercifully, he came in second to Kris Allen, for if he came in first he may have had to tame his self-styled glamazon ways. A second place finish allowed Lambert to come out of the closet and indulge in his penchant for theater on his debut, For Your Entertainment -- which isn't quite the same thing as camp, for if Adam Lambert is anything, he's earnest about his dress-up, never winking at the audience because he doesn't think there's much funny about his glitter and mascara: that's just what pop stars are supposed to do. He's learned that by listening to his stacks of Queen and Bowie records, from watching old MTV videos on YouTube, from living in a present that always competes with the ever-present past, so he takes it all at face value, mixing up arena rock guitars, new wave, disco, operatic overdubs with a constant electro pulse, glassy modern R&B, and the vague Euro strains of new millennium teen pop. All this makes For Your Entertainment very, very modern in a way few mainstream pop albums are in 2009, whether they're products of the American Idol/19 machine or not: Max Martin, ...

Body Language CD music
$15.30 Bon Jovi's 2007 effort, LOST HIGHWAY, found New Jersey's finest brandishing a Nashville-tinged, commercial rock/country crossover sound that wasn't too far a stretch from their usual arena rocking anthems for the Everyman. And where that album sometimes tried too hard to fit ...

| | Mark Knopfler Get Lucky CDs (2009)
Body Language songs
$22.09 With the release of GET LUCKY, Mark Knopfler has made as many solo studio albums as he made group studio albums with Dire Straits, which itself may be a signal that it's time to stop comparing his two careers and simply accept them as separate entities. Of course, since Knopfler was the lead singer, chief instrumentalist, and songwriter for Dire Straits, there are obvious similarities, even if he has taken a deliberately different path as a solo artist. Basically, he's a lot quieter. "Border Reiver," the first song here, begins with a pennywhistle and a piano, then strings join in. Soon enough, Knopfler's distinctive conversational baritone begins calmly intoning lyrics, and eventually there are examples of his ...
