Here's to adversity. This album was recorded after a difficult divorce and shows Belew in a moment of self-actualization -- taking positive steps to overcome pain and hardship. And this is one of the strongest critiques of this record..."God Adrian, do you have to be so upbeat about everything?!" This is a misconception, however; the transcendental pinings are so strong in places that the darker ins and outs of this recording are often overshadowed. Nearly all instruments are played by Belew. Probably the strongest track here is "This Is What I Believe In" (once described by Linford Detweiler as "having more time changes than a cheap wristwatch"). Music is intense and yearning -- and Belew sings as though his life depends on getting the words out. His guitar solo on this track sounds like a saxophone, and other diverse experimentation with the guitar litters this record at every turn. The signature lick on the first single, "Standing in the Shadows," is created by scratching the strings vertically with a guitar pick. Other transcendental songs, such as "Birds," "I'd Rather Be Right Here," or "Member of the Tribe," are uplifting exhortations -- this is the first time Adrian has sung about this kind of thing. He sings about the dissolution of his previous marriage in the unfortunately titled "War In the Gulf Between Us" -- with a mood akin to exhaustion and resignation. From beginning to end, this is a fun romp and a fine example of Belew's prowess -- creating inventive music that is simulateously experimental and accessable. One of his finest offerings. ~ Mark W. Adrian Belew is a guitar virtuoso who became one of the prestigious members of King Crimson in the early 1980's. He remains a member of that group to this day. Over the years he has issued numerous solo albums. Inner Revolution was originally issued in 1992, but has been out of print for years. We happily make this excellent album available on CD once again. Wounded Bird. 2004.

This 1997 reissue of ARE YOU EXPERIENCED? is a remastered version that restores the original LP's track order and album artwork. ARE YOU EXPERIENCED? was previously reissued in 1993 (MCA 10893) with new cover art and a new 17-track running order that included all the songs on either the U.S. or U.K. versions of the original LP. That version is now out of print, and has been replaced by this one, on the Experience Hendrix label, which features remastered versions of the same 17 songs, this time in the order they appeared on the original American LP, with the extra tracks added to the end (a separate version was simultaneously released in the U.K., featuring the same songs but in the original British track order). The Experience Hendrix label is controlled by Hendrix's family.
The 1997 reissue also adds a 24-page booklet with previously-unpublished photos, the original LP liner notes and song lyrics.

The 2010 issue of Mississippi Blues by Sonny Landreth on the Fuel 2000 imprint is not a new album, nor is it a representative compilation of his oeuvre. Alan Parsons delivered a detailed blueprint for his Project on their 1975 debut, Tales of Mystery and Imagination, but it was on its 1977 follow-up, I Robot, that the outfit reached its true potential. Borrowing not just its title but concept from Isaac Asimov's classic sci-fi Robot trilogy, this album explores many of the philosophies regarding artificial intelligence -- will it overtake man, what does it mean to be man, what responsibilities do mechanical beings have to their creators, and so on and so forth -- with enough knotty intelligence to make it a seminal text of late-'70s geeks, and while it is also true that appreciating I Robot does require a love of either sci-fi or art rock, it is also true that sci-fi art rock never came any better than this.
