While the name Israel Kamakawiwo'ole falls trippingly off few tongues, the Hawaiian singer better known as "Iz" was one of the biggest stars in his home state. Iz first came to public attention as a member of the popular Hawaiian group known as the Makaha Sons of Ni'ihau. His subsequent solo career brought even greater fame, and countless fans were saddened at his untimely death in 1997. Those who mourn his passing will be gladdened by the posthumous release of ALONE IN IZ WORLD, compiled from various recording session outtakes. While one might expect a big, deep sound to emanate from a gargantuan-sized body like that of Iz, the hefty singer actually possessed a gorgeous, fragile tenor voice full of tenderness and delicacy. That voice is put to use here on tunes that alternate between voice-and-ukelele solo performances (Iz was no slouch on the uke) and more fully arranged tunes enhanced after the singer's death. Born and raised in the Austin music tradition, Jack has earned accolades in his hometown scene. Before moving to the great Northwest in October of 2006, guitarist Jimmie Dreams of Cyril Nevilleâs Tribe 13 hired Jack to open for the Neville Brothers Band.Since leaving the South, Wilson has joined Seattleâs up and coming country and roots scene. Along with the likes of the Maldives, Sera Cahoone, Damien Jurado, Michael Vermillion, Widower, The Weary Boys (ATX) and The Whisky Swillers, Jack has graced the stages of the Tractor Tavern, the Sunset Tavern, Chop Suey, the Jewel Box Theater, the Conner Byrne Pub, and the Jules Maes Saloon. In November of 2007, Wilson joined members of the Whisky Swillers, Adam Borkowski and Jeremy Summer; former Lillydale guitarist Jason Williams; songwriter Shenandoah Davis; and hired-gun-drummer Sean Bendickson to form the Wife Stealers. Bringing elements of Austin folk-rock together with the burgeoning Seattle country revival, the Wife Stealers have enjoyed rapid success. Recording started in March 2008. The record 'America's National Entertainment', named from a 19th century Buffalo Bill's Wild West advance poster, was recorded predominately live in the Quiet Places Studios of Alex Kostelnik. Tracking of piano, backing vocals, steel guitar and banjo, came in the following weeks.
