(47 Customer Reviews)
Since exploding in 1995 with the indisputable classic THE INFAMOUS, the Queens, New York-based duo Mobb Deep has had a profound influence on both mainstream and underground hip-hop. AMERIKAZ NIGHTMARE proves that, once again, Havoc and Prodigy ... Full Descriptionare several steps ahead of the game. The album opens with the claustrophobic, gun-toting title track, which finds producer Havoc in familiar territory, assaulting the senses with distorted, multi-layered synthesizers and crashing percussion. On track two, "Win or Lose," the Alchemist samples Jean Plum's "Here I Go Again" as Havoc and Prodigy discuss the finer points of hustling. Elsewhere, the single "Got It Twisted" makes clever use of a sample from Thomas Dolby's "She Blinded Me with Science."
In typical hip-hop fashion, outside artists add their own special flavor to several tracks. Standouts include Nate Dogg's ridiculously catchy chorus on "Dump" and Lil Jon's mere presence on "Real Gangstaz." The record also features Kanye West, who contributes another superior track, the Organized Noize-infused "Throw Your Hands (In the Air)." AMERIKAZ NIGHTMARE is pure, unadulterated hip-hop, a lesson for aspiring rappers and a gift to fans of the genre.

Vibe (p.146) - 3 1/2 out of 5 - "[T]hey're putting the murda back in the music with their sixth album, AMERIKAZ NIGHTMARE, a defiant middle finger to those who'd started writing their eulogy....M-O-B-B shows a renewed confidence." Amerikaz Nightmare album
$11.59 As with the Ghostface record released in early 2004, TICAL 0: THE PREQUEL contains fewer hints than usual of the distinctive Wu world. RZA introduces the record, Ghostface and Raekwon drop by for one track apiece, but that's about the sum of Wu representation on the album. Method's rapping/acting partner Redman pops up for one track, the instant classic "We Some Dogs," which also features the inexhaustible Snoop Dogg. On this and other tracks, Meth is at best when playing off the rhymes of others, and this outing boasts a stunning hip-hop guest list that also includes Ludacris, Missy Elliott, and Busta Rhymes. As the titles implies, TICAL 0: THE PREQUEL is vintage Method Man.
While the RZA is the Wu-Tang Clan's beat-driver and Ol' Dirty Bastard garners the most attention with his high-profile dementia, Method Man is arguably the group's fulcrum. One of the collective's first hits was entitled "Method Man," and he was the first to bust out of the solo gates with the hugely successful TICAL in 1994. With his signature gruff voice and a twisted lyrical prowess, Method Man has consistently released his particular brand ...
| | Jadakiss Kiss Of Death CD (2004)
Amerikaz Nightmare CD music
$10.85 On his second solo record, KISS OF DEATH, Jadakiss begins the wistful, reflective song "Why" with the question, "Why is Jadakiss as hard as it gets?" Unwavering confidence contrasted by soft introspection is a trademark of the ex-Lox member, and this quality distinguishes the Yonkers, New York rapper from his peers.
KISS OF DEATH balances street knowledge with humor, and serves up robust beats and guest shots by a legion of hip-hop luminaries. Jadakiss brings together both American coasts, as well as years of history, on the groovy, 1970s-tinged ...
| | Lloyd Banks Hunger For More CD (2004)
Amerikaz Nightmare music CDs
$11.45 Queens, New York-born Lloyd Banks couldn't have asked for a better stage on which to emerge. With 50 Cent's sudden ascension in 2003, his band of longtime mixtape stars, G-Unit, received a dose of national attention on the sturdy BEG FOR MERCY. The three-pronged attack of G-Unit is, as its name would imply, a collective effort, but on that record Banks repeatedly stole the show with his uncompromising, yet poetic rhymes and confident, wry delivery.
Banks makes his hotly anticipated debut with THE HUNGER FOR MORE, an album whose title sums up the tough, yet introspective artist, a ravenous rapper who devours words hungrily. The world is spinning around nonstop in Banks's brain, and there is clearly not enough time for it all to get out. However, in the course of THE HUNGER FOR MORE, he tackles everything from the simple topics of love and sex and life on the streets to problems like bad karma and getting racially profiled at the airport. His paramount ...
| | Young Buck Straight Outta Cashville CD (2004)
Amerikaz Nightmare songs
$11.49 The timing of Young Buck's last-minute addition to G-Unit (in the wake of original member Tony Yayo's incarceration), mere months before the group released the massively successful BEG FOR MERCY, may seem fortuitous to say the least. However, the hard-as-death rapper from Tennessee had been on the edge of the rap scene for almost a decade, earning his stripes behind the scenes with the Cash Money crew. On Young Buck's solo debut, STRAIGHT OUTTA CASHVILLE, he explodes with more energy than a neutron bomb.
STRAIGHT OUTTA CASHVILLE lives up to the N.W.A. reference in its title. Like N.W.A., Buck delivers lyrical blows--sudden, blunt, and ruthless--without ...
| | Mase Welcome Back CD (2004)
Amerikaz Nightmare album
$12.95 After years as Puff Daddy's main protege, Mase exploded to the pinnacle of hip-hop success with the multi-platinum albums HARLEM WORLD (1997) and DOUBLE UP (1999). Then, as swiftly as he achieved that fame, he gave it all up, announcing his retirement from the rap game to enter the ministry. While many wrote it off as a passing fancy, he stuck with it for five years, until his desire to make music could apparently be suppressed no longer, and he emerged with his third record, WELCOME BACK.
On the title track, Mase reworks a line from the classic WELCOME BACK, KOTTER theme song--"the game ...
| | Shyne Godfather Buried Alive CD (2004)
Amerikaz Nightmare CD music
$12.59 As much as rappers boast about keeping it real, hip-hop, like most music, is about creating a fictional world. When real life bleeds in, the results are often tragic, like the well-documented end of the feud between 2Pac and Biggie Smalls. In the late-1990s, Brooklyn, New York teenager Shyne (Jamal Barrow) was heralded by many as the latter's heir, but after ...
