Black Snake Moan
$6.49 Following the platinum success of SLOWHAND, BACKLESS continued Eric Clapton's transformation into a singer/songwriter with better-than-average chops after a lifetime of guitar godhood. Eschewing the star-studded cameos of NO REASON TO CRY, Clapton instead relied on his core group of the '70s: George Terry, Carl Radle, Jamie Oldaker, Dick Simms and Marcy Levy. Levy in particular, proved her worth by co-writing the slide-drenched "Roll It" with Slowhand. Her passionate testifying on this as well as her sparkling harmonies on the Don Williams-influenced "Promises" made up for fellow back-up singer Yvonne Elliman's departure following SLOWHAND's release.
Clapton's choice of composers to cover included Dylan ("Walk Out In The Rain," "If I Don't Be There By Morning"), J.J. Cale ("I'll Make Love To You Anytime") and Okie Danny Flowers ("Tulsa Time"). In addition, Slowhand added a nearly eight-minute interpretation of the blues standard "Early In The Morning" that finds him milking his mojo for all its worth. But it's E.C.'s original compositions that particularly stand out, such as the funky shuffle that is "Watch ...

| | Bill Kirchen Hot Rod Lincoln - Live! CD (1997)
Black Snake Moan
$11.39 Kirchen revisits the title song (a 1972 hit for Commander Cody) and runs through an incredible catalog of assorted guitar styles with humor and ease. His singing is full-bodied and honest. Kirchen is a solid writer as well, and a handful of his originals are gracefully mixed in among the numerous covers. The album is so beautifully recorded that its live nature is not apparent until the wholly deserved applause and cheers ensue.
Guitarist Bill Kirchen has been recording and performing since he co-founded Commander Cody & His Lost Planet Airmen in the late '60s. Working solo since the mid-'80s, Kirchen has played with such stellar acts as Nick Lowe, Emmylou Harris, and Elvis Costello and fronted his own combo. HOT ROD LINCOLN LIVE! was ...

$16.45 In 2003, New York City's live music scene was gracefully taken to a next level by a young singer/songwriter sensation. Inspired by the likes of Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughn, Nina Simone, Miriam Makeba, and Sade Adu, her angelic voice and poetry are conveyed with same simplicty and sweetness in the sound of her name...Somi. Five years later, the young chanteuse has gone on to have a career of great critical acclaim and now tours internationally as her new work continues to traverse across genres of jazz, soul, and world music. This, however, is Somi's first album: ETERNAL MOTIVE. Co-produced by David ...

| | Robb Appleton Wood CD (2008) (Import)
Black Snake Moan
$18.55 Robb originally hails from Southend-on-Sea - the land of Dr Feelgood, The Kursaal Flyers, Eddie and The Hot Rods, to name a few. It was these influences (and missing the last bus home from the sea front) that prompted him to buy his first harmonica. He moved to Cambridge as a teenager after completing a drama course, to take theatre to prisons and schools. Never letting go of his musical aspirations, Robb developed his harmonica playing beyond his Blues roots to create his own, very unique sound. Harmonica is an instrument that he specializes on and uses it for session work and composing/recording. He also writes and records for music library, and is passionate about films/film music and photography. At the moment Robb is working on projects recording harmonica with natural and electronic sounds with vocals. He has just completed writing and recording his first solo album in a colourful career that has included collaborations with such other fine musicians as Rick Fenn (guitarist with 10CC), Robyn Hitchcock (The Soft Boys), Dr Robert (The Blow Monkeys) and many others.‘The Wood’ “This is a brilliant and fascinating work, which was first heard before seeing the CD or its case. The electronically produced sounds are used to suggest voices of creatures in perhaps a forest. At other times human conversation is hinted at, whilst tympani is cleverly used to portray differing moods maybe of joy, sadness, anxiety; to set the scenes of action and often is a background to them.A scarcely audible human voice tells of hills and lovely countryside so important at the end. The music of the various tracks cleverly portrays the scenes and action taking place throughout the story being told. This is pure surrealism in music just as Picasso is to art, Dali, Dada and Breton ...
