| | Deep Purple Early Years CD - Import Deep Purple Discography of CDs
(1 Customer Review)
This remastered collection of songs from the band's formative years, 1968-69, when the lineup was comprised of Rod Evans, Nick Simper, Ritchie Blackmore, Ian Paice, and Jon Lord. Most of the LP features previously unavailable songs.
The Early Years contain a combination of 14 remixes and unreleased tracks from Deep Purple's earliest lineup: Rod Evans on vocals, bassist Nick Simper, guitarist Ritchie Blackmore, drummer Ian Paice, and keyboardist Jon Lord. Originally recorded in the late '60s, these songs initially showed up on the band's first three albums: Shades of Deep Purple, Deep Purple, and Book of Taliesyn. Now fans can hear alternate versions of favorites including "Kentucky Woman," "Hush," "I'm So Glad," and "Wring That Neck." This isn't the heavy metal band of Machine Head that would become known for Blackmore's classic guitar riffs and second vocalist Ian Gillan's thunderous metal shrieking. The Early Years captures a pop-oriented band transforming into the gods of metal they were about to become with 1970's Deep Purple in Rock. ~ Al Campbell
Due to such all-time heavy metal classics as Machine Head and Made in Japan, it's easy to forget there was a Deep Purple before the arrival of Ian Gillan. Yes, before Gillan, a chap named Rod Evans fronted the mighty Purple, as evidenced by the release of the ten-track collection Best of the Early Years. While Evans didn't possess an extraordinary set of pipes like Gillan did, he did sing on the group's first-ever big hit, a cover of "Hush," which is included in all of its singalong glory ("Na, na na na, na na na, na na na"). Of course, though, there are other highlights from Purple's early years included here (many of which are covers) -- "Mandrake Root," "Kentucky Woman," and "April." Although this material was not as high quality (nor as high volume) as the band's output from the Ian Gillan or David Coverdale eras would be, most serious fans will want to investigate the group's formative stages, and Best of the Early Years is adequate. ~ Greg Prato
Digitally remastered compilation from the band's early years (the "MK 1" edition that included Rod Evans, Nick Simper, Ritchie Blackmore, Ian Paice and Jon Lord. The material here was recorded 1968-69 and most of the tracks are previously unreleased.

Early Years album
$9.79 British import edition, this includes nine bonus tracks, including remixes, unreleased instrumentals, and in-studio chatter.
With IN ROCK, Deep Purple added vocalist Ian Gillan into the line-up, a decision that irrevocably changed their fortunes. IN ROCK is one of the genre's definitive albums, combining hard-edged riffs with virtuoso technique, topped by Gillan's full-throated roar. Few singers could survive the instrumental power beneath him, but this he does with room to spare, reacting to and emphasizing his colleagues' musical prowess. Chock-full of material destined to become Deep Purple anthems, later releases were evaluated ...
| | Grand Funk Railroad Phoenix CD (1972) Bonus Tracks; Remastered
Early Years CD music
$8.09 Having scored four consecutive Top Ten albums in the previous two years, Grand Funk Railroad may not have seemed to casual observers like a band who needed to rise phoenix-like from the ashes, but the title of the band's seventh album referred to its re-emergence after a litigious split from manager/producer Terry Knight. Now, they were producing themselves, and they added organist Craig Frost, credited here as a sideman, though he went on to join the band formally. The biggest change, however, was a musical maturity. After releasing five studio albums in a little over two years, Grand Funk waited more than a year before releasing Phoenix, and in that time they managed to come up with more variety ...

No home should be without at least one copy of TUSK. Fleetwood Mac's magnum opus of 1979 is considered by some to be their greatest work. And while you are probably familiar with the hits, you may not realize that this recording is full of gems like Christine McVie's gorgeous "Brown Eyes" and Lindsey Buckingham's rousing and infectious "I Know I'm Not Wrong." Of course, even the Nikei industrial average would sound beautiful if it were sung with Christine's wonderful voice. And Lindsey Buckingham's home recordings that show up here are a virtual blueprint for the indie-rock home-recording ...

Early Years music CDs
$7.59 With HONKIN' ON BOBO, Aerosmith takes a break from radio-ready fare to record an album that pays tribute to the blues influences that have always been close at hand for the group. Further enhancing the sound of this project is the presence of storied pianist Johnnie Johnson (on two tracks) and Jack Douglas, the producer for many of Aerosmith's classic 1970s albums.
The result is the typical 'Smith sass and shimmy, with a contemporary sensibility applied to nuggets plucked from the songbooks of Willie Dixon (the sleazy strut "I'm Ready"), ...
| | Best Of The Rich Kids CD (2003) Bonus Tracks; England
Early Years songs
$11.65 History has taught that the Sex Pistols didn't do themselves many favors by sacking bassist Glen Matlock in favor of public spectacle and heroin poster boy Sid Vicious, especially since it soon became obvious that without Matlock, the Pistols didn't have an especially strong songwriter onboard (or a bassist with a working command of his instrument). However, left to his own devices, Matlock wasn't in much better shape; after leaving the Pistols, Matlock formed the Rich Kids, and while he brought his knack for a hook with him, his new band wasn't nearly as exciting (admittedly a tall order). Featuring former Silk kid and future Ultravox frontman Midge Ure on vocals, drummer Rusty Egan (whose future resumé would include stints in Visage and Thin Lizzy), and guitarist Steve New along with Matlock, the Rich Kids had chops and enthusiasm, but a rather lopsided sense ...

| | Brian Blum Trust Him CD (2007)
Early Years music CDs
$20.25 Let all fall more deeply in love with Christ! Through the warm and rich voice of tenor Brian Blum, this contemporary album of praise and prayer features primarily the Spirit-inspired writing of song bard Ed Conlin. The appreciation for Ed’s deep texts and stirring music is spreading through worshiping communities around the world. This is the 3rd album by Songs In His Presence including Ed's songs. Conlin’s energizing “Rise, O People Called to Worship,” “We Enter In” and “Join with Us” beckon us to enter the Father’s courts in profound and joyful worship. You will smile at Brian Blum’s rendition of “My Portion, My Treasure,” a toe-tapping setting of Psalm 16. Ed’s “Come, Ye Winds” based on Song of Songs Ch. 4, “Trust Him (Psalm 62)” and his plaintive ballad “According to Your Word” express our emptiness and the costs of discipleship and love. “How Profound is Your Love” is a rich and deeply-textured worship piece adapted from Augustine’s Confessions Book 10, Ch. 6. The simply-styled “Song of Peter (Lord, You Know)” conveys that disciple’s love for Christ and his grief at his own denial of Jesus. Cover tunes are track #2, “You Are Loved (Don’t Give Up)” first recorded by popular artist Josh Groban, track #11, a contemporary “Anima Christi” (“My Lord, My King” by Ann Berger) and the powerful classic #12, "The Lord's Prayer" by Alfred Malotte. Every song is a new facet of our meeting with Christ, purely conveyed through Brian’s astounding but humbly-offered vocal gift. “Trust Him” draws us to love God deeply, and ...
