On their first album since their 1996 reunion record, EVERYTHING SUCKS, '80s punk icons the Descendents unleash a fierce set of songs that fits seamlessly with their well-honed, melodic yet rocked-out sound. Vocalist Milo Aukerman still emotes the way he did when he was a teenager, but now the odes to geek woe ("Mass Nerder") and gastronomic distress ("Blast Off") are joined by songs such as "'Merican," a scathing US government broadside worthy of Bad Religion. As always, the rest of the band wraps tight, straightforward rhythms and potent guitar lines around Aukerman's sincere sentiments, showing that, happily, some things haven't changed that much since the Descendents debuted in 1981.

Semi - neat-o Talk about a blast from the past, I figured these guys were long since dead... was surprised to hear they had a new album, and curiosity and nostalgia got the better of me, so I checked it out. Kinda average, but a few kewl tracks, I think I would've liked it more if I was still 16. Kids'll LOVE it tho, probably, so if you're still in high school ya might wanna scoop this one up; if you remember the Descendents from when you were in school, though, trust me- it just aint the same anymore (you really can't go home again). Schwing-batta huge descendents fan, go way back actually. i thought they mighta gone way weak seeing as they broke off from the studio for so long, but this album does indeed rock. however, i beg to differ, with uh.... above. the song blast off is annoying and stupid, however maddie, and the first song (sorry the name isn't coming to me) are awesome, those two just really stand out for me. and, yes,it does sound like all. awesome cd. Better than everything sucks Okay okay, I know everyone likes to say. This doesn't sound like Milo goes to college. But it does sound like ALL. Good enough for me. These guys are wonderful song writers and this album rocks. Truly a must have punk cd, in a world where wussy pop punk like New Found Glory is even considered punk music. Buy this album. Cool To Be You album
$14.79 Jazz vocalist Anita Wardell has been acclaimed for the unique artistry she brings to scat and be-bop singing. Raves from peers and critics alike have cemented her reputation as one of Britain 's finest vocalists. Born in Guildford, UK, Anita emigrated to Australia with her family as child. Enraptured by movie musicals on TV, she soaked up the classics by Rodgers and Hammerstein and Cole Porter. Equipped with a portable tape player, she would record the songs off the set and listen to them countless times. She often explored her father's collection of big band albums by Duke Ellington, Count Basie and many more. During her teens, works by the likes of Clifford Brown, Miles Davis and Charlie Parker exposed her to the complexities of modern jazz while she learned her vocal craft from greats like Ella Fitzgerald, Mark Murphy, Carmen McRae, Betty Carter and Jon Hendricks. Attending Adelaide University in South Australia, Anita worked toward a performance in jazz and improvised music and worked regularly on the Australian jazz circuit. Performing with a host of local and international artists, including American saxophonist Richie Cole at the Kiama Jazz Festival and supporting the legendary Sarah Vaughan at the Sydney Opera House, her classroom studies ...

Antuan Rene' Simmons Poet Where did you go to school? K-3 Kate Burgess, 3-8 City View, 9-12 Hirschi 1. How did you get interested in poetry? I was trying to reach my spiritual side about 20. I guess most young people live there twenties trying to find out who they are. I guess there was a lot of questions I was asking. Should I go to church, hang out with buddies, date a lot of women, or help out with communion? Whether to pop in Too short (rapper) or play Anointed (religious group) in the C.D. I guess I was trying to figure out where I was in all this. So I started a journal-diary called Dear God. To ask daily questions to the Lord. That was my first time I started writing on my own. 2. Who are your influences with your regard to poetry? I always like the old poets. When every other line rhymed. Each line you try to cram full of imagination. I called them life poems, because they talked about life. Ecclesiastes, proverbs, and psalms are great examples. As far as writers. Writers like Omar Tyree, Michael Baisden, and E.Lynn Harris influenced me. I followed their marketing strategies. Going on the radio, driving city to city with the books in the trunk of my car. Trying to promote the book. 3. How long did you take to write your book? 3 long yrs. I was working at Wal-Mart and every weekend I would write down some pages. Spent most of my time at the library. 4. What inspired you to self publish. Thought I could make money right away. In which I did but not as much. Learned it takes more that a notion. I am in my late twenties (now early 30s) so I was ready for some adventure. The Last Hurrah or the beginning of a Hurrah. I doubled my initial investment in 6 mos time. I thought for a book of poetry that was good. 5. What do ...
