This collection of string tributes to Dido fleshes out the normal quartet lineup of viola, cello, and two violins with occasional flourishes of guitar, woodwind, and contrabass. This means "White Flag"'s chorus melody is handled by flutes, while "I'm No Angel" is much more dynamic than it might have been, with rhythmic layers of guitar and bassoon. The additions make String Quartet Tribute to Dido more satisfying than these Vitamin quickies usually are, even if "satisfying" is a relative term when used in relation to such a curious subgenre. ~ Johnny Loftus

| | John Mayer Battle Studies CD (2009)
String Quartet Tribute To Dido
$11.18 It's no secret that John Mayer is a 21st Century Fox, wining and dining women all through tabloid headlines, so it's about time he delivered an album that traded upon his loverman persona -- and Battle Studies is that record in spades. Retaining more than a modicum of the slick, soul-blues undertones of Continuum, Mayer fashions a modern groove album, a record that maintains a smooth seductive vibe so thoroughly it spills into a one-man band cover of "Crossroads." Mayer remains somewhat of a disciple of Slowhand, but he shows an unusual interest in the big AOR stylings of Journeyman, along with Stevie Ray Vaughan's In Step, creating a coolly clean blend of synths and Strats, one that's as much about texture as it is about song.something ...

String Quartet Tribute To Dido
$11.16 Certain concerts create a legend as soon as the final note ceases to ring. Nirvana's headlining appearance at the 1992 Reading Festival is one of these shows, a concert that arrived at precisely the right moment and stands as testament to a band at the peak of its powers...and right before things started to turn sour within the Nirvana camp. Despite the happy news of the birth of Frances Bean Cobain a mere 12 days before this August 30 festival, rumors swirled around Nirvana right up until the band hit the stage. Kurt Cobain took full advantage of these scurrilous stories, making his entrance in a hospital gown and wheelchair pushed by journalist Everett True. Cobain feebly reached for the microphone to croak out the opening lines of "The Rose," only to collapse onto the stage, milking the drama for a moment before leading Krist Novoselic and Dave Grohl through a ferocious "Breed." This impish sense of humor has been obscured over the years, lost under the ...

$14.79 This marks Clayton Carr's first solo album release. Call it eclectic . With styles all over the place, Carr brings this album together with a voice and sound that is hard to categorize.(maybe like: Kaskade, Milosh, Imogen Heap). Sweet melodies and harmonies fill this album of 20 songs, (including the hidden outro song at the end). many of the songs are made with electronic, as well as acoustic ...
