| | Michael Buble Come Fly With Me CD Michael Buble Discography of CDs
(5 Customer Reviews)
This release includes a bonus DVD featuring backstage and interview footage, and concert performances from New York, London, Hollywood and South Africa.
As with many emerging artists, Michael Buble is still developing a distinctive style of his own on COME FLY WITH ME. Regardless of that minor detail, what Buble does know is who he is as a performer, and what he wants to do with his considerable vocal talent. Reviving tunes made famous by artists such as Frank Sinatra, Peggy Lee, Tony Bennett, Elvis Presley, and Bobby Darin, Buble sings each melody with a fetching blend of deep respect and fresh-faced enthusiasm. And he has got the chops to back it all up--Buble is blessed with a sleek, warm tone in the tradition of the aforementioned royalty, as well as an undeniable ability to swing. Coming out backed by a full big band with punchy arrangements is one of his secret weapons--the guy surrounds himself with many like-minded musicians of an extremely high caliber. Highlights include a lightly swaying "My Funny Valentine" and a rousing yet nuanced take on "Nice 'N Easy."
This CD/DVD combo pack contains Buble's new CD, featuring 6 tracks and live performance footage and interview/backstage footage on DVD. Michael Buble Come Fly With Me Songs Come Fly With Me Music Review Average Rating: (4.4 out of 5 stars) Michael Buble in good form as usual Another first class offering from the young singer. I'm looking forward to seeing him perform live for a second time in May in the UK. Submitted by jamesdenyer (London, England.) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

No need to skip tracks. Just push play and let it run. This music is timeless. Michael honors each original performer of these songs in his own unique way. His performances on these songs make them just as exciting to hear as they were the first time they were released. In one word: "delicious." You gotta be kidding me!!! I just brought home my first Michael Buble CD and I must say I was thoroughly underwhelmed. What's all the fuss over this guy? His vocal talents are pleasing but by no means extraordinary. As a jazz buff, I appreciate his reverent handling of these classic songs, but there is nothing groundbreaking here. To paraphrase a rather coarse political campaign manager "IT'S THE MATERIAL, STUPID!!!" People respond favorably to this music because IT'S GREAT MUSIC, not because Buble has such a wonderful voice. I have to assume that most of those gushing over him aren't really familiar with the great American songbook. When I heard his "My Funny Valentine" I wasn't moved to tears. Instead, I moved over to the CD case to get out my Sarah Vaughn and Chet Baker CD's. Keep in mind that these songs have stood the test of time, (Hum, maybe that's why they are referred to as classics?!) and have been covered by countless singers over the years, many of whom possessed vocal instruments far superior to young Mr. Buble.
This does bring me to one possible bright spot-- Michael Buble is quite young. Maybe his voice will mature. Maybe he'll want to expand his range and try more challenging material. Maybe he'll reinvent those standards and put a totally fresh stamp (preferably his) on them. Or maybe he'll continue sleepwalking through the Frank Sinatra greatest hits catalogue and raking in bucketfuls of money while he can. If he takes one path we'll be discussing him 30 years from now. The other path leads to a VH-1 "Where Are They Now" episode. Time will tell.
To the extent that the current Buble-mania introduces this songbook to a new audience, it's certainly a positive movement on the music scene. Hopefully some of his fans will want to go further and will investigate other great singers past and present. Personally, I'm going to continue listening to the vocalists he cites as having influenced him.

Come Fly With Me
$11.65 Michael Buble's third major US release (including the mostly live COME FLY WITH ME) stays on message--this young Canadian loves the lush, swaying music of his parents' and grandparents' generations. Buble's albums, however, are much more than mere back-in-the-day exercises. The production and arranging of David Foster (Celine Dion, Josh Groban) is eclectic in a way that firmly places the tunes at the dawn of the 21st century, and, more importantly, Buble possesses the chops and sense of style to re-imagine the adult-contemporary vocal genre in a distinctive manner. In addition to standards by Gershwin and Porter, Buble embraces a variety of sounds, from Motown ("How Sweet It Is") to bossa nova ("Quando, Quando, Quando" with Nelly Furtado) to the Beatles ("Can't Buy Me Love" with a "She Loves You" tag). With his smooth croon and charming persona, Buble is a natural performer, and, for fans of fearlessly romantic and infectiously swinging music, IT'S TIME is a sure bet.
