One term that is used quite a bit in jazz circles these days is "Young Lions," which refers to young jazz musicians whose work is a throwback to the straight-ahead acoustic jazz of the '40s, '50s, and '60s -- a "Young Lion" might have started recording in the '80s, '90s, or 2000s, but stylistically, they are quite committed to the jazz of previous generations. And in heavy metal, a similar mentality exists in the power metal revival movement; the '90s and early 2000s saw the rise of many young power metallers who look and sound like they belong in the '70s or '80s. England's Dragonforce is a perfect example; although their second album, Sonic Firestorm, is a 2004 release, it might as well have been recorded in 1981. Just as the "Young Lions" of hard bop and post-bop reject fusion, crossover jazz and free jazz, Dragonforce is oblivious to alt-metal, rap-metal, death metal/black metal, metalcore, and other styles that have flourished in post-'80s metal. There are no chug-chug riffs or downtuned guitars on Sonic Firestorm, which happily recalls an era in which Iron Maiden, Queensr˙che, Manowar, King Diamond, and Savatage reigned supreme. Sonic Firestorm isn't the least bit groundbreaking, and no one will ever accuse Dragonforce of being the most original or distinctive band in the metal field. Nonetheless, Dragonforce's long-haired members are good at what they do -- and what this CD lacks in originality, it usually makes up for in terms of passion, energy, and craftsmanship. Sonic Firestorm falls short of exceptional, but it's a generally decent effort that is noteworthy if you still regard Queensr˙che's Operation: Mindcrime and Maiden's The Number of the Beast as essential listening. ~ Alex Henderson

Holly Molly !! I think that these guys just created a new Metal sub-genre: the Speed-of-Light Metal !!
The songs are well crafted and really complex, with enterlaced riffs, solid double bass and powerfull vocals.
But the speed, the speed !!... as if your CD reader was stuck in Fast Forward. How many fingers the solo guitarist have ?
Get this album! A excellent progression from their previous (an first album), with more mature production an overall more strictured play. Submitted by younes (Nashville, TN, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Another amazing CD Dragonforce does it again with more incredible music such as My Spirit Will Go On and Fury of the Storm. This group has so much skill it's insane and it sounds like they really enjoy what they do, so tons of energy is put into crafting this music Submitted by just_some_cali_guy (Turlock, CA, USA) Was This Review Helpful? the name says it all the title "sonic firestorm" is a more concise way of saying "our music will tear open the heavens and rain death down upon the kingdoms of men".
Which is exactly what the album does.
A little irritating at some points, but it never loses momentum, and will easily blow the pants off of anyone not prepared for such heavenly music. Submitted by Octavian (manassas, VA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Good and Fast Sonic Firestorm is the sophomore release from British power metal act Dragonforce. If I had to pick their best album, this one would be it. Inhuman Rampage was a brilliant album but it was not up to par with this release. This release contains slightly more melody than the one after it, and is about as fast or faster. The album starts off with the excellent track "My Spirit Will Go On" and continues to the brilliant closer "Once in a Lifetime". My favorite tracks are "My Spirit Will Go On", "Fury of the Storm", "Fields of Despair", and "Above the Winter Moonlight". But all the tracks are good. As I've said about this band before, most of their stuff sounds the same making them severely lacking in the originality department. Having said this, they are the second best in the power metal business (Cellador is first) and I am looking forward to the next release from Dragonforce. $17.05 Dragonforce's music, once you're familiar with it, is unmistakable; their triumphant, orchestral power-metal--compressed to force every nuance up front--is impossible to ignore. INHUMAN RAMPAGE finds the band continuing their assault on metal audiences, with incredibly technical solos and almost Wagnerian melodic structures. ...

Sonic Firestorm CD music
$15.69 Based out of Halifax and featuring members of the Burdocks, Dog Day has a tight, loud and energetic vibe going on during the short but terribly sweet "Lydia" which sounds like a perfect melding of Placebo and the Velvet Underground. Singer Seth Smith has a great voice for these angular, urgent rock tunes, especially on "End of the World" that would fit just as well on an album by the Smiths as it would Forward Russia. And the album seems to get better with each song, with "Oh Dead Life" sparkling as if it was to be included on a tribute album to the Cure. This blueprint is revisited again on the crisply delivered "Sleeping, Waiting." Even when Dog Day slows things down with the lighter, dance-rock, synth-tinged ditty "Know Who You Are" it still easily shines. Another highlight is "Vow" which seems to hit another ...

Sonic Firestorm music CDs
$14.79 If you ask her family what her first words were as a child, they’d tell you that Rikka Zimmerman didn’t start out speaking like the rest of the kids, she started out singing. Born and raised in the country town of Ojai, California, Rikka was immersed in music from the beginning. With family roots in both country and classical, Rikka developed an appreciation for diverse music early on. Surrounded by banjos, saws, fiddles and guitars, it was only a matter of time before Rikka honed in on her instrument of choice, a selection which didn’t surprise anyone who knew Rikka; her voice.Whether she was performing in the church choir, a school talent show, or simply for her family and friends, at the age of just five years old, Rikka was already celebrated locally as a gifted singer and musical artist. And years later, the celebration continues.Known today as Rikka Z, her debut EP entitled Cowboy Nights has exploded onto the music scene. Rikka Z has developed her own California girl meets Nashville country sound which she has coined coastal country. The one comment spoken most from listeners is “I don’t even listen to country music but I love this!” This innovative artistic sound has expanded the country market and is being touted by industry veterans. In a review for Cowboy Nights Greg Penny, former producer for Elton John and K.D. Lang, described Rikka Z as ready to roll, “A west coast trend on its way, Rikka Z is a fresh ocean breeze soon to carry across the ...
