D12's initial success was certainly aided by the high-profile presence of member Eminem, as well as lyrics that took his provocative topics to another twisted, incendiary level. However, D12 also consists of five other Detroit rappers, who were already established and respected before Eminem blew up larger than life. Their debut, DEVIL'S NIGHT, proved to be a witty, irreverent ride. On the follow-up album's mischievous first single, "My Band," the group hilariously (and self-deprecatingly) dissects Slim Shady, its greatest blessing and curse, while revealing an array of skills on the mic.
D12 WORLD should put to rest any dubious notions about the collective. These are six like-minded guys with lightning-quick intellects to match their warped thoughts. "Just Like U" is a deft combination of whimsy and dark brutality, as crew member Bizarre gives "advice" to a child, playfully parodying similar songs by other rappers ("Nas gonna probably hate me/When Mos Def hear this, he probably gonna suffocate me"). However, when they do get serious, as on "Good Die Young," a tribute to former D12 member Bugz (who was shot and killed in 1999) and other fallen friends, the result is achingly sincere, revealing a group that can be both crass and conscientious.
D12 includes: Eminem, Proof, Bizarre, Swift, Kuniva, Kon Artis (rap vocals).

Vibe (p.157) - 3 1/2 out of 5 - "[The album] legitimizes the D 12ers as much more than simply Eminem's funky bunch." D12 World Music Review Average Rating: (3.7 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews Here's how you know it's good. Most multi-plat artist/groups have a number of fans who cannot differentiate well between radio, good hip-hop. So disregard most of the bad reviews- they don't say anything except suggest the low I.Q.'s and ages (Preteen) of the reviewer.
IN D-12's case they sold more of the first album because they were (fresh)new to the public, and capitalized off Em. But you can't take away their individual styles, and talent on their own or their collaboration as a unit just because Em blew up first as the "Great White M.C.".It is much Deserved yet the novelty of our race-obsessed sterotype society regarding white rappers helped sales a lot.
As on the first album each M.C. get s to shine here. At least 3 of the group excluding Em could have deals offered from labels prior To Em joining Aftermath if only they lived in N.Y. or L.A. at the time. It's rap econ 101.
Proof and Biz have solo deals now, and both have nice albums out. And the impressive thing is they sound nice and relevent on the mic while leaving the guns out of most songs.

As one of the most controversial figures in hip-hop history, Eminem can be forgiven for being somewhat self-obsessed. THE EMINEM SHOW's opening cut "White America" sums up the notorious rapper's self-defense by keenly observing that while the color of his skin has something to do with his widespread popularity it's also the reason his lyrics are examined so scrupulously by critics ...
