It was here that Eno first began to experiment with abstract soundscapes, to employ a greater spatial element and the ethereal synthesizer effects that presaged an entire movement of ambient music. While most of the tracks are instrumental, the numbers that feature Eno's peculiar, affectless voice and free-associative lyrics seem to blend into the fabric of the album. Superior guest musicians include John Cale, Robert Fripp and Phil Collins. From the brain-bending riff of "Sky-Saw, through the elemental creeping of "Sombre Reptiles;" from Robert Fripp's looping solos in "St. Elmo's Fire" to the dark swirl of "Spirits Drifting," ANOTHER GREEN WORLD creates a superb series of sonic atmospheres that are rhythmic, expansive, strange and beautiful.

Fantastics Pop songs & Electronic music (A & B sides) This album is fantastic. When I listened the Vinyl LP in the 70's, the A-Side are good pop songs (not easy songs), and the B-Side are hypnotic instrumental-electronic music.... Very good disc.... An Art-Rock/ Avante Garde Connoisseur's Wet Dream Nothing I can say will do this album justice but here goes anyway....
First of all, throw away all of your preconceived notions of what music sounded like and what was possible with the studio & instrumental technology of that time (1975). Before I heard this album, I was somewhat convinced that "Darkside Of The Moon" (a timeless masterpiece in it's own right) by Pink Floyd was the quintessential "art-rock" release from that era & head-&-shoulders above the rest of that crop. Not long after discovering "Another Green World", I can safely say that it is as far ahead of "Darkside" as I believed "Darkside" was from the rest.
How this sort of production was achieved back then, I'll never be able to grasp. It makes the majority of the best produced albums of the past decade seem like hack-job slop. Remember ladies & gentlemen --- we're talking 1975!!
The music itself --- certainly not meant for a walk in the park or the daily commute home through rush-hour traffic. I can't say that I'd ever play this record in the presence of a crowd or at a social gathering of any sort either. It is as far from a casual affair as is imaginable.
This is probably the most sombre, intellectual & emotionally reflective set of songs ever released, & to get the full effect, I think it demands a seasoned listener of many different genres & eras of music to be fully appreciated. Something to pick-up just when you think you've "heard it all" & your musical boundaries can be pushed no further. It won't push your boundaries, it will destroy them. Eno Excellence Yes this is a groundbreaking work giving birth to everything electronica, aw hell, everything that followed. But it also happens to be a great pop album. This is true of all of Eno's song albums. The melodies are deep and hypnotic. They snake into your mind and you find yourself humming them for the rest of your life. The complexity is there to dive into, but there is also a great tune and wicked lyrics to enjoy Submitted by John (LA, CA USA) Was This Review Helpful? YesNo 1 of 1 found this helpful.
Hidden gem from the seventies. Another Green World puts Eno in the same class of subliminal masters as Pink Floyd. Each song is a strange capsule that propels you to another place. Perhaps another green world. If you enjoy sitting in the dark and getting lost in the music, this CD will definitely fill the prescription. Eno proves with this work to be a true experimental genious who was a good decade ahead of his time with the methods of sound technology. It's a shame that he never followed up with a similar offering. Submitted by Brian (New Port Richey, FL. USA) Was This Review Helpful? YesNo
For fans of this genre, a masterpiece If you like a little art with your music and expect albums to flow together in a stream of beauty and inspiration, then you just can't go wrong with this album.
It's timeless because it doesn't fit any one pattern of musical composition. It just goes where it wants to go and forces you to go along with it. It's a nice ride. Submitted by Manny (Lexington, KY) Was This Review Helpful? YesNo
