Its rumored demise having been somewhat exaggerated, Skinny Puppy returns after an eight-year layoff with as poppy and melodic an album as an industrial band worthy of the name can produce. Nivek Ogre's vocals are nearly distortion-free and Cevin Key's dancefloor-ready production is positively smooth compared to the band's previous effort, 1996's THE PROCESS.
The socially conscious Canadian noise rockers take several pages out of the Nine Inch Nails playbook with a collection of hooky, practically listener-friendly tracks such as "I'mmortal," with its guileless "Just looking for something" chorus, and "Use Less," which sports an atmospheric, futuristic ambience. It's left up to the death-disco groove of songs "EmpTe," "Past Present," and the post-industrial wasteland tale "Neuwerld" to recall the band's fierce 1980s roots. While Skinny Puppy's sound could never exactly be called lightweight, THE GREATER WRONG OF THE RIGHT signals something of a smoothing-out of rough edges. But the presence of tracks such as "DaddyuWarbash" means the group never totally abandons its signature menace--or its love of intimidating anti-war songs.
"The Greater Wrong Of The Right" is a breathtaking continuation of the path that the band had embarked on with The Process. The experiments of the past few years have not been forgotten or faded out: in their condensed, highly energetic form they influence an album that impresses first and foremost with its energy, power and stringency.

no 5 stars here kiddies. get david ogilvie back. i know that dwayne goettel passed away leaving skinny puppy with less to work with. he was a master at layering dark moody samples and his synth work gave SP that evil goth sound that will never freak us out again. people thought that SP was a 3 man band but their wrong. i guess all you posers haven't heard of dave"the rave"ogilvie. he was their star producer and also played guitar when needed. when SP made "the process", they tried to produce an album without him...and we all know how bad that cd is. during the process cevin key and dwayne goettel went behind ogre's back and made the 1st and worst "download" cd. puppy needs to get dave ogilvie back producing for them again and MAYBE we might hear a REAL skinny puppy album. this cd sounds like a bad mix between prodigy and ravey trance. i know that SP is looking for a younger fan base to grow, but is selling out and making cheesy music a good thing?!? last rights and too dark park still rock and sound better 15 years later compared to what we have now!!! Theyre Baaaack! Millions of fans dreams came true when the word of this new album spread. Fans that stuck through the extended hiatus the band went on following "The Process" can finally tear the cellophane off a NEW Skinny Puppy CD. The sound has evolved, taking hints from both surviving members' solo projects, and then adding in a little classic SP craziness. "Pro-Test" and "ImmOrtal", the first two tracks, are high energy, suprisingly organized songs for this band. they are infectiously catchy and laced with the evil and halluciogenic synths and samples that made this band the living legend that it is. Ogre has developed into a more versatile vocalist and the music and programming are awesome. Well Done. I also reccomend the DVD of the tour for this album, it's incredible. Skinny Puppy evolves with exquisite grace. Skinny Puppy's The Greater Wrong of the Right is proof that sometimes Hope does pay off, and in the deepest way. This work, as a whole, is totally different from the Skinny Puppy of the '80s and '90s, the sound of which always, dark, chaotic and subtley beautiful. Now, no matter the art inside the cd cover, they aren't quite so dark, their chaos much more organized, and the beauty is so in-your-face that any attempt at subtlety would be redundant. Ohgr Download old Pup The 2 first soungs sound like more ohgr solo work there is a depth of sound that is lacking on those disc. This could only be chocked up to cevin being behind the build up of sounds. After that the disc starts to head into a more puppy like vein and gets better till the final two tracks are very close to the fury of old. There is a bit more mellow vide over-all but just a wonderful return for the most inovative and greats bands of not only "industral" but in rock.
