Though sometimes lumped in with jam-bands (Widespread Panic, Phish), Edwin McCain is, in fact, a roots-rocker who has more in common with fellow Southern road-warriors the Connells and Hootie & the Blowfish. In addition, McCain is a polished songsmith whose efforts often recall the best work of progressive Nashville country artists Radney Foster and Rodney Crowell. With SCREAM & WHISPER, the South Carolina native turns in another set of warmly produced material, heavy with hope and heartache. Fusing bits of blues, jazz, 1980s college rock, and old-fashioned Southern boogie (of both the Lynyrd Skynyrd and Wet Willie varieties), SCREAM & WHISPER lives up to its title, exploring the full range of human emotion with an earthy romanticism that fits like a well-worn pair of leather boots.

Edwin is the Best! Edwin really has an incredible talent. There are several songs on this CD that should be top 40 songs. Shooting Stars, Throw it All Away, My Mystery and Say Anything. You won't regret buying this album. If you are an Edwin fan you will love it. If not you will become one after listening to this CD. I've been so fortunate to have the pleasure of seeing this man in concert. He and his band rock the house! They are my absolute favorite band! Could Not Ask for More What a great CD!! Each of Edwin's CD's change a bit with age (just as people do) but he never disappoints. His music is amazing to hear whether it's live or on the CD. Change is Good! Scream & Whisper is not the same old Edwin. It has a different sound, some of the songs are alot smoother and have a deep tone (Throw it All Away) than previous releases. He's one of the best singer and songwriters out there today and he proves that in songs like "White Crosses" a song about illegal immigrants and their quest to have a better life or "Good Enough" remembering a time when color lines were drawn and after playing on the stage the black performers were asked to leave the bar "because they were good enough to play but not good enough to stay".
He shares songwriting credits with bandmates Larry Chaney and Pete Riley as well as Maia Sharp who duets with McCain on the albums first single "Say Anything" and Tyrone Coleman on "Good Enough"...and more. He finishes off the CD with Maggie May a bonus track that has more of a pre Scream & Whisper sound and is a huge tour favorite. Overall you won't be disappointed with any aspect of this CD.

A Show Stopper!!!! Mr. McCain will continue to provide music that everyone can enjoy as he did on his latest album...Scream and Whisper. He is a genius when it comes to music. He is more than just a singer, he is a songwriter and even a storyteller. As you listen to his songs there is a little story to everyone.
