good enough to buy it
the mac is back with another loss (christine mc vie), but this gives more room to buckingham-nicks, so the set list is a little bit somber than "the dance", but this aint a bad thing, lindsey is impressive as ever and even stevie manages to convince us that shes having a good time on stage. It might lack the energy of the mirage tour for instance, but it is not fair to make that kind of comparisons. Nevertheless, this is a good show and a great band together again for our pleasure. It could've been nice to have some extras on the dvd.

Classic Mac
This is one of the best DVD's out there today and for all you Fleetwood Mac fans this should be a must have for your collection. This band still rocks and is as powerful and passionate as ever. Check out Say You Will, Landslide, Never Going Back Again, The Chain, Second Hand News, Peacemaker, Stand Back. Lindsey Buckingham has never sounded better, truely an underappreciated guitar player and the bands chemistry on stage remains second to none. The cd falls a little short by omitting some classic songs but he DVD is worth every penny. "Dreams unwind...love's a state of mind."

The Mac is Back!
This is a double DVD set coupled with a music CD of the 2003 "Say You Will" concert of Seventies supergroup Fleetwood Mac, recorded in Boston. I attended the Pittsburgh show last year, and this recaptures the feel of the show perfectly. Mick Fleetwood and John McVie continue to be rock music's most consistently exquisite rhythm section; Lindsey Buckingham is still the guitar virtuoso he always was; and Stevie Nicks remains the reigning Queen of Rock. The lion's share of the show consists of classic Mac favorites like "Rhiannon," "Dreams," and "Go Your Own Way" interspersed with songs from their latest studio release, "Say You Will." The biggest treat for me, though, was seeing the band play "Beautiful Child" for the first time in concert. So why only 4 stars instead of 5? Simple. The band released this DVD set WAY too early. They should have waited until after the 2004 leg of the tour and included some of the songs not played on the 2003 leg. They haven't played "Sara" live in 20 years, and are currently performing it on this summer's tour leg. It's a minor(?) disservice to loyal fans to have not waited to include "Sara" on the DVD. And was it really necessary to put this on 2 DVD's instead of 1? My final criticism is that the music CD included only one song from "Say You Will", Buckingham's "Come," which really should have been replaced with "Peacekeeper" or the title track. As a loyal follower of Fleetwood Mac since 1975, I have yet to see the "perfect" Mac show captured on video, but this one comes very very close.

For watching, not listening
It seems the DVD is the main point here. It's a concert to be WATCHED more than listened to. The audio CD is redundant in the Fleetwood Mac catalogue. 7 of the 10 tunes were a part of "The Dance" set and 5 of the 10 were ALSO released on their 1980 "Live" album. Why they didn't include more tunes from this performance that WEREN'T previously released on audio is beyond me; do we really need yet another live version of "Landslide", "Rhiannon", "Go Your Own Way" or "I'm So Afraid"?? They just seem "tired" to me. Had the newer tunes ("Say Goodbye" "Say You Will"), "or tunes that hadn't been released in a live format previously ("Beautiful Child", "Second Hand News"), or familiar songs with a newer arrangement ("Never Going Back Again") been included on the audio disc, those, for me, would be a killer of a drawing point. As is, I tend to yawn at the thought of hearing those same tunes again.

Fleetwood Mac still knows how to Rock!
First of all, if you are an avid Fleetwood Mac fan, you simply must stop reading this and go and buy Live in Boston immediately. With that said, if you are a new FM fan, this DVD will cement your love for them.
After all these years together they still have the intense energy of a band half of their age. Key moments for me were "Eyes of the World" where they dig up an old gem they used to perform live years ago. It was if they never stopped playing it. Lindsey's version of "Come" off their newest cd proves the man is a guitar god. It amazes me still that he is a self taught guitarist who cannot read music! The real highlight is of course Stevie Nicks. She ages so gracefully and her voice has deepened over the years, but her unique voice still can break your heart. This version of "Landslide" will bring a tear to your eyes, even though you've heard this song over and over. A new song by Lindsey, "Say Goodbye" was done in a duet form between Lindsey and Stevie and literally had me crying, it is so moving! Lastly, the whole reason to buy this is for the little heard live "Beautiful Child". We all know the soap opera between this band, and to hear this live after all these years proves that nobody knows heartbreak like Stevie Nicks. The lines "I wish that you were mine..." are so clearly about a certain guitarist, you can feel the tension come from the screen every time you play it! I highly recommend this DVD to any rock music lover. These old songs we know and love take on a whole new aura done live. My only complaints are the sort of unflattering closeups of Stevie, and the fact that she decided on wearing black sneakers instead of her trademark platform boots. But, I guess she's served her time dancing all these years in them. She deserves a break! Go buy this now. Seriously.
