2004's MARBLES continues the implacable career of stalwart neo-progressive rockers Marillion, including the singles "You're Gone" and "Don't Hurt Yourself," plus an enhanced CD-ROM video of the latter.

Marillion's 2004 album, MARBLES, is a quintessential example of how far the long-lived British band had come from their beginnings as a neo-prog outfit led by the whimsically named singer Fish. Steve Hogarth (who replaced Fish in the mid-'80s) helped Marillion evolve into more than a gang of Genesis-fanciers over the years. MARBLES incorporates the influences of the Beatles, contemporary Britpop, and even a bit of jazz, creating a sleek, sophisticated sound that's no prog-rock rehash but can still safely be termed art-rock in the literal sense.

5 stars More like ten stars...
Make sure you buy this import version. It's a double disc that includes the magnificent 17 min. song titled "Ocean Cloud." I can only speculate why this track didn't make the domestic release (short-sighted marketing execs who don't understand Marillion fans), but any American purchasing Marillion's work has taste that goes beyond Coldplay and would certainly appreciate this song: it re-defines classic Marillion's signature symphonic brush strokes. It's why Marillion fans keep coming back for more. I agree with the fan that said, "Thank God we still have groups like Marillion." I couldn't agree more.

5 stars This album left me speechless!
Music just doesn't get any better. A double album of gem after gem. "Marbles" has replaced "Brave" as my favorite Marillion album ... no ... my favorite album of all time. Fantastic stuff.

5 stars The best...amazing...incredible
Sometimes I wonder where these guys get their inspiration...after more than 20 years making wonderfull music with marterpieces such as "brave" and "affraid of sunlight" they invaded aour souls with marbles....FANTASTIC PLACE is the song I was waiting for...YOU'RE GONE is a great pop music...ANGELINA makes me travel...INVISIBLE MAN is a movie...not a song. try to get the double album version...you'll find OCEAN CLOUD and GENIE...great tunes...anyway...all you have to know is that this is not an album for Marillion lovers, this is for the best music lovers...the best album ever made since the 70's...thank you steve for your great voice

5 stars Better every time
I have been with this band since 1985 and "Marbles" is their finest offering to date. I had planned to write some seriously smart-arsed prose about it but I finally decided the best thing to do was lay down a challenge. Listen to it! And then listen again, because it doesn't give all its secrets first time out. And then listen again, and find the masterful musicianship. And again for the heart-rending vocals. And again for the little subtleties. And again, and again because you are listening to real musicians making real music with real heart. This is music...real music. If this one doesn't move you (particularly the heart-breaking final track) then you've been dead for a long time. An absolute classic from a criminally neglected group of artists.

5 stars Fanrastic
I Don't Know What Else To Say But Wow. This CD Is Fantastic And I've Not Heard The Full Double CD Yet. I Know YOU'RE GONE Is On The European Charts Already But DON'T HURT YOURSELF Would Be My Choice For A Chart Topper. Keep Pumpin' Out The Great Tunes And Stay True To Yourselves. Marillion Is A RARE GEM In The World Of This American Idol Crap.
