Daddy Yankee's brand of reggaeton is brash, aggressive, and exciting, fusing non-stop pumping club rhythms with snarling, rapid-fire rapping reminiscent of Cypress Hill. The record's sound reflects the harsh, uncompromising reality of ghetto life in both the Bronx and San Juan with mechanical-sounding synths and throbbing, industrial-style bass lines. Not content to stick with his signature sound, Daddy Yankee also branches out into crossover territory, singing romantic sweet nothings in English on "Like You," and sounding downright Dirty South on the G-funk-influenced "Santifica Tus Escapularios."
Daddy Yankee is one of the leading proponents of reggaeton music, a style that, though often misidentified as a reggae sub-genre, is actually a hybrid form of Puerto Rican hip-hop heavily influenced by dancehall, techno, merengue, and salsa. BARRIO FINO (which translates literally as "fine neighborhood") is one of the first full-length, non-compilation reggaeton releases to make a national splash on the Billboard charts, despite reports that, in New York City, bootlegged versions of the album sold over 100,000 copies prior to the disc's official street date.
Personnel: Daddy Yankee (vocals); Wisin y Yandel, Zion & Lennox, May-Be, Tommy Viera.
Rolling Stone (p.78) - 3.5 stars out of 5 - "Start here for an action-packed entree to the genre's rougher pleasures." Uncut (p.114) - 3 stars out of 5 - "[O]n BARRIO FINO Yankee rides roughshod over beefed-up digital reggae rhythms, the emphasis pushed on low-rent electronics and sharp, biscuit-tin snares." Hot for parties & nightclubs. I'm a radio mixshow and a club DJ and everytime I spin any song from this CD everyone either goes crazy or jumps right back onto the dancefloor. The entire CD is packed with pure peak-hour energy to keep everyone moving at any club or house party. Submitted by "DJ Spinn" (Brooklyn, NY, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

That renaissance gal is at it again. As in THE BODYGUARD, Whitney Houston does double duty as star and soundtrack provider for THE PREACHER'S WIFE. Don't look for her to be sticking to the commercial pop-R&B sound that served her so well on her last soundtrack album, though. THE PREACHER'S WIFE finds Houston reaching back to her roots in gospel, and collaborating with some stellar gospel artists, including her mother, Cissy.
Several cuts here, including "Hold On, Help Is On The Way" and "I Go To The Rock," find the soulful Georgia Mass Choir supporting Houston in her return to the fold. On "He's All Over Me," Houston is joined by gospel great Shirley Caesar as well. On a more modern tip, Houston ...

Barrio Fino album
$14.37 Most of Graffiti is a natural progression for Chris Brown. Like many young cred-seeking male singers who have just exited their teenage years, Brown emphasizes womanizing and hedonism and balances it out with a couple clean and empty ballads, as well as a couple relatively lighthearted Europop numbers. A handful of songs deal with his relationship with Rihanna, as well as the fallout from his assault of her. ~ Andy Kellman
Most of Graffiti -- that is, the songs that do not detail what ex-girlfriend Rihanna and the rest of the world have done to him -- is a natural progression for Chris Brown. Like many young cred-seeking male singers who have just exited their teenage years, Brown clumsily emphasizes womanizing and hedonism and balances ...

$18.95 ABOUT MILASAMilasa was born December 14, 1980 in Russia’s Chelyabinskaya region, Trehgornyi city. Her musical education began at the age of six when her parents encouraged her to join a singing circle. The following year, her family decided that she should continue her studies at a specialized music school. Guitar lessons soon followed and then at the age of 16 she entered the musical college in nearby Ozersk city. After graduation at 19, Milasa continued her creative development in Moscow where she has entertained crowds at several Russian festivals over the past three years. In August 2005, at the invitation of producer Valery Alborov, she participated in the internationally renowned Fringe festival in Edinburgh, Scotland and earned much critical acclaim for her performance there. On March 15th 2006 Milasa performed two songs, Prayer and Moon, with the highly acclaimed Russian guitarist Dmitry Chetvergov accompanying her on both guitar and keyboards. These superb performances were screened by a major national Russian television company through a programme called ProSVET. ProsVET is very popular with Russian audiences and hosted by the famous presenter Dmitry Dibdov. Again these beautifully captured, fully live performances, very succinctly demonstrated her immense talent in being able to reproduce the songs to the same incredibly high standard as that of the album recordings. To hear Milasa sing in her native Russian is to bear witness to the pathos and melancholy memories that often seem to run through the heritage of the Russian soul.Beautiful songs like Moon and Prayer could well take your heart on a journey that it might never fully recover from. Her voice is rich and deep but also in many ways fragile and tender, beautifully expressive so that although in Russian the listener is left in no doubt the depth of emotion being conveyed in her songs. Furthermore her guitar playing is of an exceptional quality in both its technical prowess and expression. ...
