Recorded live at the Fillmore East, New York, New York on March 12-13, 1971. Originally released on Capricorn.

Ultradiscs are mastered from the original master tapes using Mobile Fidelity's proprietary mastering technique, then plated with 24-karat gold and housed in a stress-resistant lift-lock jewel box.

This is a hybrid Super Audio CD playable on both regular and Super Audio CD players.

The original Fillmore East album is one of the finest live documents of the rock era, capturing the original line-up of one of the '70s' tightest outfits before they were cruelly robbed of Duane Allman and Berry Oakley. Taken from five 1971 performances at New York's fabled Fillmore East, the extended and effortlessly melodic workouts of "In Memory Of Elizabeth Reed" and "Whipping Post" still have the power to rivet and move.

On display here is the Allmans' fabled chemistry at its finest. The band not only rocks, it rolls, swings, and stretches out in exploratory, jazzy passages. The dual guitar interplay of Duane Allman and Dickey Betts glides effortlessly over the propulsive rhythm section of Oakley and twin drummers Jaimoe and Butch Trucks, while Greg Allman's powerful blues voice and melodic keyboard work provides the icing on the cake. Though the later-released THE FILLMORE CONCERTS presents these songs in their original entirety, AT FILLMORE EAST, with its seamless edits of multiple performances, may be the superior recording. It highlights all the glint and sparkle of what still ranks among the best jamming committed to record.

4 stars Awesome multi-channel SA-CD version
SA-CD version is incredible. The piano sounds like it's in my listening room. Amazing sounds from the slide guitar. You can hear the bass line cause the drummers cymbal's to shimmer from reverberation. This SA-CD could well be a demonstration reference disk. This music has existed since 1971, but, I'm betting that this is the first time it has been faithfully reproduced enough that listeners can hear what the lucky attendees at this historic concert heard for themselves. A must have disk for multi-channel music lovers and certainly a must have for Allman Brothers fans.

5 stars SACD 5.1 Multichannel-Superb
Live at the Filmore is an exceptional recording as is. But to listen to it in 5.1 surround sound, adds a totally whole new dimension to it. There's no better way to listen to a true classic.

5 stars They Finally Got The Mix Right This Time !
Yes the dates were Friday and Saturday night; March 12th & 13th. Each night had 1 hour opening sets and then were followed by "longer" late sets. This allowed the band to jam and explore more, which they did and as the intensity levels increased, it was from these late shows that most of the cuts came from. Back in 1992 Polydor, who had temporary ownership of Capricorn Records - who would eventually go backrupt, issued a "soft mixed" version of an entire "Fillmore" concert, song by song, audience fade into next song etc. It is a great listen because it flows so well and actually follows how the ABB did a concert, BUT what a mess with the mix... Berry's bass sounds like a rubber band and the guitars (at times) are mixed so far in the back, that you 'almost' lose 'em... but you don't. You get the full length version of "Stormy Monday" which originally appeared in 1974 on the Quadraphonic version of the LP. Who knows why they mushed that CD, but this mix SMOKES!!! That is the true story about the release of "Fillmore Deluxe Edition". It's a bit disjointed, as the songs aren't segued like the "Concerts" " set but the guitars and the bass, here, are in your face! Kudo's to whoever got the mix right this time, finally almost 35 years later.

5 stars SACD=Best sound yet
Surround SACD sound is superb. To say it blows away the DTS version is an understatement.

WILL MCFARLANEWill McFarlane spent six years playing guitar with Bonnie Raitt, from 1974 to 1980. Born on a Navy base in California, McFarlane started voice lessons at age 6, adding piano a year later. Seeing the Beatles play the Ed Sullivan Show when he was 12 inspired McFarlane to take up guitar. He developed a taste for R&B in high school, focusing on Motown material while developing as a rhythm guitarist.

McFarlane attended college in Denver, but soon dropped out and had been playing gigs in bars and clubs across the country ...
