Aired on VH-1 and PBS, GRACELAND includes interviews, performances, and additional footage not previously seen.
Through the mist of subsequent pale imitations, it is difficult now to recall the enormous impact of this trans-cultural album. The mould-breaking blend of rock and African rhythms is exemplified by "Homeless," an exquisitely melancholic evocation of African beauty and desolation. The stirring harmonies of Ladysmith Black Mambazo illuminate "Homeless" and "Diamonds On The Soles Of Her Shoes." The element of humour in the latter is echoed in "You Can Call Me Al," a hit single. The lyrics are finely crafted and the result is a structure of impeccable proportions. There are angels in the architecture.

Graceland This is sweet music put together by Paul Simon and the Ladysmith Black Mambazo. Album was produced after a show in South Africa during the dying days of Boer regime. Submitted by Paul (MD, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
What real "world music" can be at its best. The reviewier below from Fla. needs a hurricane to blow the wax out of her ears. This is one of the wittiest, most entertaining, and most moving integrations of American pop and world music ever produced. Simply the best album Paul Simon ever produced, which is saying something special indeed. The remastering is excellent. Buy it and watch it become part of your life!

Music writing at its best I grew up listening to Paul Simon and I've never heard another artist who writes music the way he does. His poetic/storytelling style is what makes him so unique and his lyrics pull you in every time. I can't even count the number of times I've listened to this album. If you are new to Paul Simon, buy this album first. Submitted by Tom (Minneapolis, MN) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Different Of course this is different than the previous 60 or so cds that may have been released without the promise of giving back to all those that entered in here by the music of all others.Don't buy this but rather purchase it. $13.15 BREAKING NEWS: a singing drummer from Richmond, CA and a bass player from northern Jersey deliver classic songwriting, tight musicianship and danceable grooves...two great talents come together, and release a stunning debut: one of the hot, new "throw-back" soul bands of 2007!In 2002, ERIC BROWN moved to NYC from the Bay area, and hit New York City's live music scene in venues like the VILLAGE UNDERGROUND and JOE'S PUB... On an R&B/gospel gig, he met bassist MICHAEL GRIOT; an independent producer, and busy tour musician...almost immediately, they began writing and recording at GRIOT'S studio (ATTICA). They quickly became a highly-regarded NYC "live" rhythmn section; their deep grooves and soulful syncopations were heard while touring behind UK soul legend OMAR, and international hip-hop artist COMMON...it was clear to everyone right away: there was something special about the way they grooved!!"FOR YOU" is their highly-anticipated debut release from PWI ENTERTAINMENT...OMAR himself shares an uptempo w/Brown on "family affair"; Grammy-nominated trumpeter Russell Gunn(who also tours with C-Lo) rips on two songs, as well as a catchy co-write and backing vocals by Philadelphia's own R&B royalty Kenny Whitehead."BLACK i is our way to express our love of just performing", says bassist Michael Griot, "through our instruments and our lyrics". Comparisons run the gamut: from Prince to Raphael Sadiq...from Curtis Mayfield to D'Angelo..."we are basically doing up-tempo relationship songs on this CD".ERIC BROWNFamily of musicians: dad-singer!..mom: singer/piano!brothers: drums and bass!. raised in a neighborhood of musicians!regular rehearsals of local bands in the garage!Started on drums at age 7, jamming w/brothers!!added piano at 16, playing both drums and piano in church!occasionally sung in church and directed choir!started writing music at 17. $11.39 Scum and the underground music scene have been insepearatable since 1996. His styles changed over the years but his life was and always will be dedicated to making some of the most disturbing, shocking, and aggressive music possible. He started off doing death metal after moving to Colorado in 1995 from Moscow, Russia where he was born and raised. Then in 1999 when he felt his English has improved enough to write rhymes he started rapping, joining DJ Sevill to form DL (Denver Lowlifes) and recording their first demo "On The Edge". This low quality recording showed that even though Scum's delivery and rhymes were far from perfect but the content was so profane and offensive that it motivated Scum to continue rapping and gained them their first fans. In the year 2000 Scum was joined by another local artist to form LnG and founded Lyrikal Snuff Productionz. They spent 2001 in the studio and in early 2002, the labels first official release - LnG's "Lyrikal Snuff" was out in stores throughout Colorado. Due to its graphic and violent content the CD was banned by a variety of stores making it very hard to distribute. Shortly after the release the duo broke up in the middle of recording their sophomore release "Murderous Intentionz" which was never finished. At that point Scum decided to pursue his solo career and began working on "Violent Verses" which was temporarily abandoned halfway through the recording when he hooked up with a local incarcerated producer named Airtight who supplied him with the beats to record "Enter The Asylum" which featured a variety of local talent and hit the stores in early 2003. At that time with almost no break, Scum went back to the studio and finished recording "Violent Verses" which was mainly self produced aside for a few tracks that were produced by Airtight and DJ Sevill (DL). In late 2003 the album was also completed released by LSP. From there on the real struggle began. Slowly but surely getting the CD's in stores throughout the country, performing numerous shows, setting up street teams to promote and distribute his releases. Doing more shows. From small 21 and up clubs to larger all age venues, Scum did them all. Putting GoreHop (Scum's self proclaimed style) on the map! The fan base grew, and so did Scum's lyrical and performing skills. In 2005 he returned to the studio to record his most diverse album up to date, "Only ...
