Intial pressings of HOUSE OF SECRETS come in limited edition, 3-D packaging.
The impenetrable boys' club of metal has fallen, thanks, in part, to vocalist Otep Shamaya. The band bearing her name is known largely for its fierce Ozzfest appearances, and its sophomore release, HOUSE OF SECRETS, is an affair even heavier and scarier than its debut. Here political provocation and dissent join Shamaya's palette of verbal assaults. As listeners are drawn into her dark world, swirling lyrical mantras slowly rise to levels of savage intensity. Shamaya's ability to sonically pummel her audience in a discomforting way, then offer fleeting moments of softer reflection, caesura, and disarmingly sultry melody, is what makes her so unpredictable. "Nein" showcases the group's ferocious chops and highlights its ability to create an urgency that matches the ever-dominant vocals. In addition to guitarist Greg Wells and bassist Evil J., Slipknot drummer Joey Jordison brings his skilled skin-bashing to the record, strengthening an already mighty force.
Only 3 I give this CD 3 stars. I think there is too many spoken word songs. The songs that actually involve instruments are great, but few and far between. Sevas Tra was far better. Submitted by cobyking (Cobleskill, NY, USA) Was This Review Helpful? YesNo
not bad Not really a fan of the spoken word, but the songs are brutal and to the point, rock on Otep! Submitted by Mark (knoxville) Was This Review Helpful? YesNo
Not as great as sevas tra This CD is really good but, it just does not own up to sevas tra. If your a fan of Otep buy it. But, if your a new fan buy, sevas tra first and you'll see the difference. Submitted by purplegreenpanda (Cotton Candy, Alaska) Was This Review Helpful? YesNo
House of Secrets, reveiled This CD gives us a biggger look into Otep Shamaya's mind. It's scary and dark, but you just can't stop.
I love all their CD's and am a willful listener. I regret and disrespect all the bad reviews given. If you don't like the music, don't listen to it. But don't insult the music.
