Zach Braff, cast member of the quirky TV sitcom SCRUBS, follows his show's lead by using eclectic music for the soundtrack to his film GARDEN STATE. The writer, director, and star of this acclaimed movie, Braff also served as the executive music ... Full Descriptionproducer, compiling an excellent mix of contemporary indie-rock, with a few older selections added for good measure.
For this tale of an estranged son returning to his New Jersey hometown for his mother's funeral, Braff taps the gamut of emotions appropriate to such an awkward homecoming. There's the twee pop-rock of the Shins ("Caring Is Creepy") and the melancholy musings of Coldplay ("Don't Panic"), along with the burnished regret of Men at Work's Colin Hay ("I Just Don't Think I'll Ever Get Over You") and Bonnie Somerville's wistfully nostalgic "Winding Road." Equally effective are Braff's soft electronica choices, ranging from Zero 7's ethereal and rich "In the Waiting Line" to Thievery Corporation's exotic, Middle Eastern-flavored "Lebanese Blonde." Also featuring the spare, acoustic sounds of Iron & Wine and Nick Drake, GARDEN STATE is a disc destined for permanent residence in many listeners' record collections.

WHat a Great Collection of Music Everyone once in a while I run into a movie that has an amazing sound track that I just have to have the second I leave the theatre. This is one of them. The songs are introspective and alternative sounding (which I love), adding a dream like quality to the movie and make great kick-back-and-relax music that's a out of the ordinary. $12.29 This is an Enhanced audio CD, which contains regular audio tracks and multimedia computer files.

The Shins appeared out of the middle of New Mexico as if by magic, though they had been around for a while under several other names on several different labels. In a landscape of boy bands, pre-teen chanteuses, and nu metal, the literate, '60s-influenced jangle of the Shins' debut seems a bizarre anomaly. This is indie rock that channels Love and Creation rather than the Ramones and Sex Pistols.
Standouts include "One by One All Day," with its Space Invader intro, rattling drums, and retro keyboard solo, the gentle ...

Garden State Soundtrack CD music
$6.39 This audio document of The Corrs' Dublin homecoming concert has pretty much everything fans of Irish pop could wish for, including an appearance from Bono in his earthly incarnation, fresh from an audience with President George W. Bush. It's to the band's credit that the charismatic singer fails to steal the show, despite creditable efforts via an anthemized version of Ryan Adams' beautifully downtempo ...

Garden State Soundtrack songs
$12.29 Recorded in James Mercer's Basement, Portland, Oregon and Avasti Studio, Seattle, Washington.
When the Shins bowled over music fans and critics alike in 2001 seemingly out of nowhere (but actually out of Albuquerque and years of playing together) with OH, INVERTED WORLD, their stunningly beautiful debut, the comparisons came pouring in. Scribes likened their insistent, melodic sound and James Mercer's hyper-literate, oblique but mellifluous lyrics to many mostly anachronistic, all deeply revered sources, including everything from the Beach Boys to Love.
The follow-up, CHUTES TOO NARROW, meets and often manages to exceed the tremendous, burgeoning buzz surrounding it. Mercer and co. retain all the elements that made their debut delectable, as the melodies flow hither and thither, a subtle rapture confident in its ability to entrance. Delicately crafted yet explosively poetic lines again abound (such as "secretly I want to bury in the yard the grey remains of a friendship scarred"), and by the time the sing-a-long of "So Says I" kicks in, the die is cast. Nestled near the end of the consistently captivating record is the countrified should-be classic "Gone ...
