Even though the film adaptation of the wonderful, marionette-driven cult classic Thunderbirds kind of missed the point by turning it into a live action Spy Kids wannabe, at least Hans Zimmer's score pays homage to the original show's brassy, fearless sound. From their titles on down, tracks such as "Lady Penelope: At Your Service," "Tracy Island," and "Buggy Chase" are faithful to the legacy of Barry Gray's adventurous, clever music for the TV show. However, Zimmer dials down the sly humor that informed Gray's music and, on tracks like "You Need to Grow Up," occasionally pumps up the sentimentality. Even so, the gung-ho feel of "Can't Wait to Be a Thunderbird," "Junior Mission," and "Thunderize!" has plenty of adrenaline-laced appeal. What's also refreshing about Thunderbirds: there's nary a teen pop song in sight, and the symphonic punk-pop of Busted's "Thunderbirds Are Go!" is thankfully placed at the end of the album. While overly praising the score just because it's not as misconceived as the movie it was written for would be rash, Thunderbirds is still a respectable collection of high-energy film music. ~ Heather Phares
Director Jonathan Frakes (Star Trek: First Contact, Clockstoppers, Star Trek: Insurrection) introduces Thunderbirds, the live-action feature film based on the hit classic British television series of the 1960's, which followed the perilous exploits of the Tracy family. Universal Pictures & Working Title Films presents Thunderbirds, opening July 30 in theaters everywhere (est. 2,000 screens). The Decca soundtrack will be released on July 27 & features original music composed by Academy Awardr winner Hans Zimmer (Gladiator, The Last Samurai, King Arthur), plus "Thunderbirds Are Go" - a new song by hit U.K. group Busted - played over the end credits.

Thunderbirds are back! When I heard they were making a film of Thunderbirds, I began to think they will never do it right. The story will be wrong and so will the music...however, after hearing that Hans Zimmer was doing it, I felt a little better. Okay the orignal Thunderbird theme only appears twice in the soundtrack, it is still a great score. With Zimmer just reminding us how good a composer he really is. Creating an Alan theme, a new Thunderbird theme, a Lady Penelopy theme and a Hood theme (it does sound a bit like the Orc them from Lord of the Rings though) But, still a great score...
