Lil' Romeo occupies one of the most peculiar spots in the world of hip-hop. Surrounded by some of the hardest of hardcore rappers on his father Master P's legendary No Limit label, the precocious MC emerged in 2001 at the age of 11 with an innocent self-titled album. With ROMEOLAND three years later, Percy Romeo Miller, Jr. enters into his teens, and, as with any teenager, struggles with his identity.
The album is covered with Disneyland-esque imagery and opens without a hint of self-consciousness, as a gathering of fairyland creatures playfully discuss the return of Romeo. Suddenly, the scene shifts to Romeo showing off a tougher edge on the rugged "Whoodihoop." Lil' Romeo swiftly switches back to a sweet, familiar sound on "My Cinderella," which reverently refers to both Shai's "If I Ever Fall in Love" and LL Cool J's "I Need Love." Throughout the record, guided, of course, by the steady hand of Master P, Romeo continues to exhibit bits of an incipient hardcore style, but he wisely retains the youthful tenderness that endeared him to parents and children everywhere. Lil' Romeo is growing up, but not too fast, making for an entertaining album and a fascinating time capsule in ROMEOLAND.

Purchase Romeoland CD To buy, Click on price to add to cart | Ciara Goodies CD (2004)
Romeoland album
$8.99 As a rare female voice in the world of crunk, Ciara is in the unique position to offer a counterpoint to the multitude of hits like Lil Jon's "Get Low" and Petey Pablo's "Freek-a-Leek," which feature men going into clubs and calling out any attractive female. On Ciara's breakout single, "Goodies," the singer coos sultrily--but forcefully--about her independence and how she refuses to be treated like an object, even enlisting ...

| | J P "Thunderbolt" Patterson Thunderboss CD (2006)
Romeoland songs
$11.25 This is straight-up rock & roll, shaking and stirring, and not watered down by vocals beyond an occasional "Hey" or "Olé." It's as basic as you can get, retro to the core, but all the better for it. J.P. "Thunderbolt" Patterson concocted this instrumental CD during a hiatus of his main gig as a drummer for New York's mighty Dictators. A man of many talents, Patterson wrote and produced the album as well as played most of the instruments by himself. Then he recruited his 'Tators pal, Ross "The Boss" Friedman -- also of Manowar and Brain Surgeons fame -- to play the Jeff Beck role over his base tracks. With the help of their longtime road manager, C.J. Scioscia, who added occasional instrumentation, the power duo deal out a hard rock set that mostly adheres to their tried, tested, and true backgrounds. "Hey!" "R/T," and "The Box, Pts. 1-2" are less rock anthems than Dictators' "Stay with Me" or "Two-Tub Man," but then again, what isn't? "Thunderbolt Theme" is the closest the band gets to the '60s Ventures sound, and "Katie Free" distinguishes itself as a chugging blues layered with Patterson's harmonica. Other highlights include "Olé," on which Ross the Boss delivers a chunky, zigzagging lead ending in an "Olé" chant as a nod to the Dictators' enthusiastic Spanish fan base, and the scorching "283," which wraps up the album with Ross' electric bolts delivered amidst Patterson's thundering beat, all within a brisk 32 minutes. Overall, the production is a tad too crisp, and a couple of tunes would have benefited from added vocals. Where's Handsome Dick Manitoba when you need him? The only other missing ingredients are sweat and a screaming crowd packed into a tiny watering hole -- this set would peel the paint off the walls performed live. J.P.'s grandpa Jake "Thunderbolt" Patterson, who is featured on the cover, passed on his nickname to the perfect percussive pugilist. ~ JT Lindroos
J.P."Thunderbolt" Patterson may be best known as the longtime drummer for NYC punk legends, The Dictators and a founding member of "Handsome" Dick Manitoba's Dictators spinoff group, Manitoba's Wild Kingdom. In addition to 16 years of recording and touring with the Dictators, J.P.'s career has also included five years spent with indie rock faves The Voluptuous Horror of KarenBlack, as well as performing and/or recording with Joey Ramone, Dee Dee Ramone, Patti Rothberg, Lemmy, Rhys Chatham, Timmy Cappello and so many more. J.P. now endorses Pearl Drums, Remo Heads, Vic Firth Sticks and ESP Guitars. In 2004, Patterson reunited with fellow Dictators Manitoba, Andy Shernoff, Ross the Boss and Scott Kempner for Little Steven's Underground Garagefest. Playing alongside The New York Dolls and The Stooges, J.P. and his cohorts were credited for being the highlight of the show! For most of his life, J.P. has also ...
| | Ana Barbara Para Ti... Mi Historia CDs (2006)
Romeoland album
$8.55 When radio stations in Mexico excluded norteño's controversial narcocorridos (corridos about the Mexican drug trade) from their playlists, that meant more airplay for a long list of grupero artists who stuck to romantic themes. But even without that no-narcocorrido policy, Ana Bárbara would have enjoyed a ton of airplay on Mexican stations. She has been responsible for some of the most infectious and appealing grupero of the '90s and 2000s; combine her considerable pop talents with Fonovisa's promotional muscle, and it is no surprise that ...
