On this charming holiday album, honey-throated crooner Chris Isaak lends his pipes to a host of Christmas classics, including twangy versions of "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer," "Let It Snow," "The Christmas Song," and "Santa Claus Is Coming to Town" (a duet with Stevie Nicks). Few contemporary vocalists have the chops to pull off both "White Christmas" and "Mele Kalikimaka" without danger of setting Bing Crosby spinning in his grave. Isaak--his voice as smooth as eggnog--manages the task, respectfully reinterpreting both songs as vintage country-pop carols. Isaak's originals sound like lost standards themselves. The heart-melting "Brightest Star" sets moving lyrics about a spiritual epiphany to a buttery ballad that would have been right at home on the 1964 Billboard charts, while the raucous country shuffle "Hey Santa" is almost worthy of the King (Elvis, that is) himself. Isaak's backing band provides tasteful accompaniment, with some shining slide guitar work by Hershel Yatovitz.

4 stars Contains at least one possible future seasonal standard
An enjoyable seasonal offering in Isaak's trademark retro style. Nice to hear a Yuletide album attempting to include new Christmas songs (five here) and this album contains what could possibly become a future seasonal standard, the beautiful "Washington Square". Recommended.

5 stars Chris Isaak does it again!
WOW, what a CD. If you enjoy a good spirited Christmas CD, this is the one for 2004. Chris Isaak sounds better than ever. Rudolf the red-nosed reindeer is a priceless track. Absolutely great!

5 stars chris isaak and his cool christmas CD
This is a christmas CD that only Chris Issak could do. It is very laid back and a pleasure to listen to. The original songs on the CD are like having a new Chris Isaak CD. I knew this CD was going to be great---I had no idea it would be beyond--what I was expected. I love the CD. Chris Isaak and Stevie Nicks together---what a great song. This CD is awesome

5 stars Fantastic!
Just what you'd expect from the California surfer! His light, restrained voice seems to never lose its magnetic charm. I'm sure that even The King would approve of Blue Xmas. Xmas on TV and Rudolf are two of the most delicately made songs on this album...actually of them are! Some of the guitaring riffs are reminiscent of Scotty Moore(especially, Santa Claus is coming to town)...A MUST HAVE for one and all!
