(10 Customer Reviews)
The long-crowned Bass Queen, DJ Baby Anne continued her output of bass-and-breaks mix CDs with Mixtress. The music here is punishing, no doubt, with its energetic onslaught of bass-heavy beats, but it's also alluring in a twisted way. There's a particular pleasure in Baby Anne's onslaught, and the fact that she's an attractive young woman who's found a niche for herself in a field nearly monopolized by men certainly plays a role in this pleasure, even if only psychologically. As far as the particulars of this given mix, there aren't too many worth noting. Sure, you get some brand-name contributions from the likes of the Freestylers, Plump DJs, and Jackal & Hyde, but even these names are liable to mean little to you unless you're way into the breaks scene. So just know that the selections are solid from beginning to end and that you get an impressive production from Baby Anne herself, the title track (which is on a par with anything here) showcasing that this young lady is more than just a pretty face -- she's not only an ace DJ, but she's also a creative force well capable of producing her own music. Taking all of this into consideration, it's fairly clear that Mixtress is one of Baby Anne's better mix albums, and one of her more readily available ones, released in 2004 by System Recordings. ~ Jason Birchmeier

Totally SICK! Baby Ann is just totally sick with mix of hers! I absolutely love this mix album of hers! WHat I love most about her is that she is a true "BASS HEAD"!! And I appreciate everything she brings to the table! Awesome all the way through!! Submitted by jkcheeks (Oak Harbor, WA, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Honey Baby, good for the eyes!!!! I first caught wind of this honey baby in the UK in 2000. The tracks are good. The mixage is decent. If you are considering this because you loved the live mix from Vegas from the Moonshine lable, don't waste a second. Buy this album now!!! Look for all her releases. The pace is 122-128. Can you keep up with the DJ???????? Submitted by busychild9 (Global Race BMX) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
hot??? have you ever seen baby anne in person? she's really not hot at all. wears NO makeup.. hair -FLAT, brown and short. she went to ultra in a baggy track suit.. in reality she's more of a PLAIN JANE than a sex vixen like her label portrays. Mixtress album
$11.18 Last time around, Shakira touched upon so many styles she couldn't be contained on one album, splitting Oral Fixation in two. This time, she focuses on one sound only: a pulsating electro-disco that crosses all boundaries and welcomes all nationalities. Such concentration behooves Shakira, freeing her to release her inner She Wolf, a wild wacko who's as cuckoo as she is carnal. And for as sexy as Shakira is -- crucially, her music is sexy too -- what really gives She Wolf its bite is her inspired nuttiness, how she laments that Matt Damon's not meant for her, and wishes her ex-lover and his new girl a horrible vacation where the room smells and the toilet doesn't flush. "Darling, it is no joke, this is lycanthropy," she sings on the title track with no small trace of humor, and this blend of cheerful weirdness and sick beats -- often supplied by the Neptunes, delivering tough, sensual rhythms in a way they haven't in a long time, but also John Hill and Wyclef Jean -- is giddily addicting, a celebration of all the strange sensuality that comes out at night. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine

| | Snoop Dogg Malice N Wonderland CD (2009)
Mixtress music CDs
$12.54 On his tenth album (and first as the chairman of Priority Records), Snoop Dogg continues to prove he's not a relic of the G-funk era, proving that while the music may change, good flow never goes out of style. Right out of the gate, Snoop drops a song for the West Coast Jerkin' set with "I Wanna Rock" before switching gears back to classic Snoop with the Dre-inspired "2 Minute Warning," where the rapper lets everyone know he's still the same Snoop Dogg after all these years as he proclaims, "Ponytail still swingin', hair still braided/Laker to a Clipper I won't be faded." With production by Lil Jon, Timbaland, Danjahandz, Battlecat, and the Neptunes (just to name a handful), it's no wonder the album sounds like not only a retrospective of every stage of his career, but of the trends in rap music as a whole. With the album touching on his G-funk beginnings with "Secrets," crunk on the Lil Jon-produced "1800," the Dirty South on the Soulja Boy collaboration "Pronto," and his time on the Neptunes-fronted Star Trak on "Special" (featuring guest spots by Pharrell and Brandy), Snoop Dogg is able to prove simultaneously that he's still relevant while showing off his veteran status. With all the big production on the album, it comes as a ...

$13.10 On her second album for Concord's Stax imprint (and fourth overall), Angie Stone delves deeper into funk and hip-hop than on her previous outings. Her last offering, The Art of Love & War, was a critical and commercial triumph for the vastly underrated vocalist, and topped the Billboard chart. With a slew of producers including Sly Williams, Willie "Chuck" Shivers, Karrim King and Fitzroy Reid, Steven "Supe" White, ...

Mixtress CD music
$7.85 Collectables' 2003 disc The Very Best of Paul Davis: I Go Crazy is part of their "Priceless Collection" series, which is a budget-line reissue series that reissues previously released budget-line collections from other labels. It's a bit of an odd situation since these are not collections that anyone really wants reissued, but they do tend to be good budget-line samplers, so it's nice to have them around for the consumer on a budget. I Go Crazy is no exception to the rule. ...
