NYMPHETAMINE (according to the band, a term defined as a ravenous addiction to classically beautiful women) is Cradle of Filth's sixth full-length album, and third in a row on a new label (in this case, Roadrunner Records). It's also stripped of the grandeur provided by a full orchestra and choir on 2003's DAMNATION AND A DAY. Time spent on the road with 2003's Ozzfest left the band with a need to simplify the arrangements, in an effort to capture the ferocity of their legendary live shows. What's left is heavily thrash-influenced and teeming with fluid guitar lines rooted in the classic British metal of Iron Maiden and Judas Priest.
Relying less on synths, strings, and operatic background vocals, Cradle of Filth turns up the guitars a notch and delivers wave after wave of brutal yet melodic riffs anchored in the band's early influences. Guitarists Paul Allender and James McIlroy twist lines into dark harmonies on "Nemesis" and "Coffin Fodder," while delicate piano intros add atmosphere to "English Fire" and "Absinthe with Faust." The title track features a duet with Liv Kristine (Theatre of Tragedy, Leaves Eyes) that epitomizes the idea of beauty and the beast. NYMPHETAMINE proves that less can indeed mean more.

My favorite Cradle of Filth album This album has taken a lot of criticism from those who have been fans of the band since the early '90s when they were just getting started. I have heard a lot of people say that CoF USED to be black metal back in those days but now have turned from their roots. But I have one question. Would you like for them to continue to make albums that all sound the same or would you like them to evolve their sound? I also own Dusk...and Her Embrace, which is widely considered to be the band's best album of their career. Most fans who loved that album, hate this one, calling it a sell-out effort. Dusk...and Her Embrace happens to be my second favorite album from the band. I'm a fan of their old and new stuff alike. Change is good. As far as this album is concerned, like my title states, it is my favorite album from the band. It's full of brutal riffs and uncompromising vocals but also contains some female vocals and nice keyboards and synths. This album also contains my favorite song from the band, "Absinthe with Faust". This album is absolutely amazing, and I recommend it to anyone who is a fan of the band or just metal in general. Hopefully, these guys will be around for years to come! | | Cradle Of Filth Damnation And A Day CD (2003)
Nymphetamine CD music
$11.05 In the beginning there was metal and it was heavy. In the mid-'80s an underground sub-genre made a name for itself based as much on satanic imagery as on extreme music, with bands like Bathory and Mayhem. Enter England's Cradle of Filth, who took black metal to new heights in the '90s. DAMNATION AND A DAY finds the band at the artistic pinnacle of its controversial career, with the unprecedented-for-the-genre support of Sony firmly behind them.
Forged with fire and brimstone, DAMNATION tells ...
| | Arch Enemy Anthems Of Rebellion CD (2003) Bonus CD
Nymphetamine music CDs
$11.59 Anthems of Rebellion continues in the same vein as Wages of Sin. Arch Enemy doesn't come up with the most original ideas or riffs, but the twin guitar attack of Christopher Amott and his brother, Michael, is appetizing, tuneful, and rocks out without getting bogged down too much in self-indulgent displays of ...
| | Dimmu Borgir Death Cult Armageddon CD (2003)
Nymphetamine songs
$12.85 DEATH CULT ARMAGEDDON was briefly reissued with a limited edition enhanced bonus disc featuring video footage and five bonus tracks.
Purists won't call it black metal, but if one has to choose a sub-genre it'll do. The only other thing you can accurately call it is extreme metal. With DEATH CULT ARMAGEDDON, the Norway based Dimmu Borgir has synthesized the last 20 years of heavy music into one very coherent and terrifying album. Along with Emperor and Cradle of Filth, they have risen to the top of their own dark niche.
Like breaking into a haunted carnival at midnight, DCA assaults you with fear and surprise at every turn. Sound effects and atonal guitar harmonies in "Allegiance" set an evil mood; this is going to be fun, but scary fun. "Progenies of the Great Apocalypse" is the first glimpse of the live orchestra used to flesh out parts handled previously by synthesizers; few extreme bands have incorporated such ...
| | Megadeth System Has Failed CD (2004) Enhanced CD
Nymphetamine album
$11.49 For 2004's THE SYSTEM HAS FAILED, vocalist/guitarist Dave Mustaine reunites Megadeth--original guitarist Chris Poland, along with new members, bassist Jimmie Lee Sloas and drummer Vinnie Colaiuta--for the band's first new studio album in three years. Frontman/songwriter Mustaine has a lot on his mind, as he ruminates on many of the political and social ills troubling the world, and his words are delivered over grooves and riffs reminiscent of mid-period Megadeth (circa ...
| | Dark Tranquillity Character CD (2005)
Nymphetamine CD music
$9.99 Having taken longer than most of Gothenburg, Sweden's death metal giants to reveal their greatness, Dark Tranquility have now arguably become that ever-popular subgenre's most enduring torch-bearers -- the living embodiment of melodic death metal midway through the '00s. And, in keeping with that station, 2005's Character marks the third installment of what most agree has been the band's most consistent career-phase; one which finds them, like other genre standard-bearers before them (Iron Maiden, AC/DC, Black Sabbath, anyone?), reveling in their mastery of a formula they know so well it inevitably begs the question: have they become too comfortable in their niche? Are they stagnating? Well, there's a distinct difference between beating a dead horse and riding it to victory every time, and Character sure feels like the latter, as song after memorable song storms by all limbs a-flailing and death-shrieks a-shrieking, their riffs and harmonies ...
| | Armored Saint Saints Will Conquer CD (1988)
Nymphetamine music CDs
$9.25 The final Armored Saint recording to feature Dave Prichard before the guitarist's untimely passing, Saints Will Conquer is a respectable but rather plain live offering that did little to further the group's artistic or career interests. Prichard handles his instrumental duties with verve and efficiency, and his partners-in-metal also keep their end of the musical bargain on this rather short eight-song set. John Bush (vocals) and Joey Vera (bass) are most notable throughout this and every Armored Saint recording, as they both project a decidedly British metal essence with great personal style. While the group never ascended to the heights of '80s metal success ...
