Heifetz/Munch/Boston: Great team In these two violin concertos (as he was, with Reiner, in Brahms and Tschaikowsky) Heifetz is truly splendid, always a little on the fast side.- In Beethoven I prefer the Kreisler cadenza in the first movement, and no cadenza at all in the third.- Munch/Boston are excellent, and so is the remastered sound. This is the Best Version That I Have Heard Phew! What an electrifying rendition, what virtusity, what feeling! Heifetz is a wizard, a devil with sensuality. I listened it with my wife while looking at Terranora lake. We were mesmerised. Charles Munch's handling of the Boston Symphony was simply grand, more akin to the sound of Berliner Philharmonic that one is used to. Was it me too overwhelmed by the intensity of the music and lost concentration or did they slightly loose focus towards the end in rondo allegro? I was also surprised when I found out this recording was done in February 59, I thought it was November 55. A definite must buy. By Dr Gokhan Sayram

Indispensable Heifetz If you already have, as I do, the Heifetz-Reiner renditions of the Brahms/Tschaikowsky violin concertos, don´t hesitate to purchase these electrifying versions by the same team.- Heifetz is again superb, in his rather fastish manner.- In the Beethoven, I still prefer the Kreisler cadenza in the first movement, and no cadenza at all in the last. With respect to sound, the Mendelssohn is rather superior to the Beethoven, but both remasterings are quite satisfactory.- By truderic

Good Musicians, Lousy Sound Heifetz and the BSO are splendid, in theory. In point of fact, only Jascha is audible, since the recording engineers relegated the orchestra to an acoustic backroom, i.e. 'noises off-stage', leaving Heifetz playing with himself.
Even in SuperAudio, this recording is wet cardboard; waste of money and time.... By beagle
