Tuscany
$11.35 ROMANTIC MOMENTS is the ideal CD for a romantic dinner or glass of wine with a friend. Familiar melodies come back like old friends, and a slightly over-resonant production makes André Rieu's sound seem nostalgic, old-world and comfortable. There is nothing heavy or depressing here, and what's wrong with a little lightness every once and a while?
Many of the works are arranged by Rieu, some with orchestral accompaniments and others with just piano. The 'Wiener Lied' is particularly charming and of course the slow movement of Mozart's Clarinet Concerto is gorgeous. This CD is more syrupy romantic than serious classical, and is therefore best listened to with someone who you find a little distracting.

$12.69 These live recordings include applause and other noise from the audience.
Anyone wishing to understand the André Rieu phenomenon would do well to begin with LIVE IN DUBLIN. The charismatic violinist and conductor is always at his best leading the forces of the Johann Strauss Orchestra before an enthusiastic audience. The secret of his success? A frothy mix of lighter-than-air musical confections culled from a varied repertoire of waltzes and polkas, old favorites as well as newer compositions, and adaptations of familiar themes and well-known pop tunes, all delivered with energy, style, and a healthy dose of showmanship. The program includes elegant accounts of "Dark Eyes," "The Merry Widow Waltz," and, of course, "The Blue Danube Waltz," as well as rousing renditions of "Thunder and Lightning," "Song of the Volga Boatman," and "Radetzky March." John Sheahan of The Dubliners makes a guest appearance on his own composition, "The Marino Waltz," as well as the Irish folk tunes "The Last Rose" and "Irish Washerwoman." The warm reception from the crowd leaves no doubt as to why Rieu is known as "The Waltz King of Europe."

$9.69 Metal band Lamb of God may hail from Richmond, Virginia, but their dark brand of melodic thrash pits them squarely in the midst of the European (and mostly Scandinavian) death-metal tradition. KILLADELPHIA captures the band performing live at Philadelphia's Trocadero in October 2004 for 15 tracks of pure metal fury (including six from their major-label debut ASHES OF THE WAKE) as well as behind-the-scenes footage from their world tour. Songs include "Laid to Rest," "Bloodletting," "Now You've Got Something to Die For," "Terror and Hubris," "As the Palaces Burn," and more.

$10.15 Glenn Strauss is a native Texan with a diverse musical background including solo instrumental, jazz, symphonic, and studio recording work. He has studied classical guitar under the direction of Mr. Frank Kimlicko (a personal friend and student of Maestro Pepe Romero) and has participated in master classes by Christopher Parkening, Elliott Fisk, and Jaume Torrent. The artist brings a unique sensitivity to his music from his missionary experiences with the people of Latin America as an accomplished eye surgeon. He has personally shared in their tragedy and their joyfulness - moods that this folk-based repertoire so beautifilly expresses. This is music that puts real life into the beauty of a song. Dr. Strauss lives with his wife of 25 years in Tyler, Texas. They have four children and one grandchild. The art work on the CD cover was the gift of a friend who did the sketch for the portrait during a concert. It was given out of appreciation for the Christian influence the artist has had in his life. "Encanto de la Cancion" was recorded, mixed, and mastered at WindWord studios in Tyler, Texas by Mr. Alex Blair. DISCOGRAPHYEncanto de la CancionJDT 3050 Three Preludes - M. Pujol1.
