One of Mexico's most successful artists of the 1990s, Alejandro Fernandez is the son of celebrated ranchera singer Vicente Fernandez, and has continued his family's rich tradition of heartfelt vocalizing into the new millennium. The smooth pop of A CORAZON ABIERTO is a slight departure for Fernandez, but his sensitive vocals are well suited to his material, which varies from the throbbing, sentimental "Me Dedique A Perderte" to the flamenco overtones of the uptempo "Se Va," one of the most traditional-sounding tracks on offer here. The sultry, acoustic "Lo Que Pudo Ser" again highlights Fernandez's smoothly seductive, pleading vocals, while the Cuban influence and instrumentation of "Luchare Por Tu Amor," a "secret" extra track, artfully demonstrates his versatility and his genre-straddling expertise. For all the pop trimmings on display here, Fernandez still has his roots in the soulful music of his family and his country.
Initial pressings included a bonus DVD.

Great Music! I strongly recommend this CD to anyone. Not only is he handsome but also very talented. He has a great voice and it clearly shows in this CD that he can veer off from singing mariachi and try new things. He has a long life in this business just as his father before him. I love it! An American girl who loves his music, knows no spanish. I first heard Alejandro's music in a friends car one day. The CD playing hit me like no others before.I asked her,who is that man singing, and what is he saying ? The music, his voice, gave me a feeling no American artist ever has.She told me who he was, and the CD was, A Corazon Abierto.Since that day I have most of his CD's &DVD's.I go to every concert in the US that I can ! Who would not love that sexy smile & laugh he has and to think I still do not understand all the words he is singing. He is the reason I am now taking Spanish ! Submitted by Lana (Birmingham, ALA. Alejandro STRIPPED down! Alejandro Fernandez’s latest pop album is a fresher and more contemporary sound than his fans are accustomed to. Gone are the LUSH arrangements by a symphony orchestra. The focus instead is on a more personal, acoustic sound.
Usually when a performer attempts an UNPLUGGED album, the result is rough and raw. It is impossible for Alejandro’s voice to ever be raw, in fact it is soft as butter, smooth as velvet, better than ever.
This album is hard to describe in many ways. The songs all have the same theme, love lost, regrets, a broken heart.
I am one of those die hard fans that ADORES the melodramatic LUSH over the top romantic power ballads that he is famous for. I am an incurable romantic! I love cheesy black and white movies on tv and the violins in the background.
As much as I love the classic, romantic sound……..i can appreciate what Alejandro and Kike Santander have done here. The sound is so CLEAR and so SPARSE. Its as if you were listening to Alejandro in the corner club or café with a 3 piece ensemble. It is very intimate.
Many of the songs have just a hint of blaring horns…..just enough to remind you that Alejandro is “Hecho En Mexico”! Its that slight touch of horns that makes the songs irresistible. Some of the songs are reminiscent of Juan Gabriel.
Then, just when you think the whole entire album is ballads……..there is “Se Va” to WAKE YOU UP! It’s a sort of David Bisbal goes to Mexico tune! I just can’t even imagine Alejandro performing this. Bisbal would be flying around the stage on this! Poor alex doesn’t dance. Maybe he will surprise us!
The last song on the album is a SALSA version of “Me Dedique a perderte” ! Watch out Marc Anthony! I would not have believed it either.
This album comes with many extras not normally included. There is a dvd that has 2 videos……”Me Dedique a Perderte” and “Luchare por tu Amor”……..terrific concert tour footage that is SO CUUUUUUTEEEEEE…..and a chronology (for those that are new to AF)
So the ranchera fans will probably not like this too much. They do not want Alejandro to change. However, he has so much talent, and so much potential. It would be a crime to hold him back. Who knows what he is capable of?
I look forward to each and every innovation, every creative moment. He is a work in progress, and the evolution is amazing to watch.
ps. for techno freaks, the cd is interactive with the official website. you pop the cd into the cd drive and ConnecteD gives you exclusive access to behind the scenes videos and more. i tried it and it CRASHED my computer!
